Why does the addon announce in General? Why not have it report to some other communications channel so that the addon can pick it up without spamming people? Most other addons work this way, they’re not constantly spitting code and announcements to general channels.
Yes there is. Since it is the add-on doing it, it repeats the same thing for every rare on each person which turns it into spam. Again since the OP says the reports are that Blizzard is silencing (and not squelches) then Blizzard is agreeing that it is a spam violation.
Clearly you aren’t getting it. You are claiming people are spamming. No, they aren’t. 1 message from 1 person, be it via addon or otherwise, is NOT spam. If 3 people all use the same addon for the same purpose, and all 3 are tripped by a rare, you are going to get 3 messages. Also not spam. Consider, you are not going to ask how many people in (area) use one of these addons so you know who is or is not using one (or if they are truthful in their responses. Also consider the words you quoted - “on each individual person”.
This is not “on each individual person”. Ergo, people are not spamming and should not be reported for it.
If you want to use the addon, get the addon? That’s how I see it. I mean, I run with General in a separate tab so I’ve got no horse in the “spam vs. not spam” argument, but it’s weird to me that people would somehow feel like they should get to see addon announcements without installing the addon in question.
If you really want to get technical with this, the word people should be using is “flooding” - i.e., the addon is flooding General Chat with messages because too many people are using it simultaneously, ergo the addon should be changed to verify whether someone has posted about (rare) in (time frame). This is an addon problem, not a player problem, and is not something people should be reported to Blizzard for. This is something that should be taken up with the author(s) of said addon(s).
And the original point of the thread is that this is a ridiculous policy for them to hold and it needs to be addressed. You and that other guy repeatedly going “Blizzard said so, so case closed” are contributing absolutely nothing to said discussion.
But they are. 3 people using the addon. 3 messages. All with different names. So no, you are the one not getting it.
Key word: “If”. And that doesn’t necessarily make that judgment call correct, which is why there is an appeal process that should be used. People should not be reported for spamming who are not spamming.
And you are ignoring that people are trying to argue that it is not spam and if Blizzard has reviewed it and deemed it such that it is spam. So as far as that argument goes yes it is case closed.
Also more logical fallicies. Seriously. Also that is not the point of the OP. Go read it again if you think it is. The point is that the OP is saying Blizzard made the rares NEED this add-on and that is 100% false.
Do you have just have a “Logic and Rhetoric” textbook open nearby and a whiteboard where you’re marking off anything you think is a fallacy? You seem like a kid that’s just found a new word.
1 rare. 3 people, 3 messages. Not spam. Stop grasping for straws.
No, it really isn’t. Logical fallacy here.
The word you are looking for is “flooding”. Not spam. It is clear you are trolling because you don’t understand what the word spam means. Therefore you are not worthy of further responses.
There’s a reason why Blizzard quit using old style rares, and now they’re getting reminded of that reason. They make especially little sense when there are so few current content zones, making it mostly a matter of luck rather than camping to find them.
I’d imagine that the point of the add on is to be a good citizen and let everyone know about the rare, not just other people in your elitist add on world. If this started being add on only, to me that would be good reason to ban the add on.
getting silenced sucks for that, but near as i can tell it is spammy and most of the time, things are dead before 90% of people get there anyhow… about pointless
