So much stupidity in this thread, I feel dumber for even reading it now.
You try to help and correct people, but they don’t want to learn the error of their ways and resort to trolling instead. Oh well, I’m happy to flag away as appropriate and go about my day. Their ignorance isn’t hurting me any.
Such as you calling me a troll for calling it spam, when you called it flooding yet I linked a wiki article on gaming spam that says flooding is spam?
Maybe this is signifying the upcoming end of days; but I’m forced to agree with you this one.
What we’re seeing here OP are the unintended consequences of allowing players not in a party to share the loot/kill credit of mobs.
Back then, this was a non-issue because only party members could share the spoils of a kill. Now it’s all about participating in the kill.
I’m totally fine with the banning of certain addons, and think Blizzard has every right to circumvent these addons using silencers.
And we all know that if it’s on wiki it’s gotta be the truth.
edit: forgot to quote
Exactly.
Spam: Multiple messages by 1 person which are unwanted in nature and used for advertising purposes.
Flooding: Rapid sending of messages for the purpose (even if unintentional) of scrolling text off a screen so that one would have to scroll up to read it, or to fill a message box so that no more can be added to it (and other similar behaviors).
The two are similar, but not identical. What’s happening with this addon is the latter, not the former. But some people cannot and will not understand that and continue to argue otherwise, hence trolling.
Wow, an addon that encourages communication between players because Rares are content that should be done together… and Blizzard is silencing them?
Fun-police in full effect…
Yep, because people are reporting folks for spamming who aren’t spamming.
When talking about industry accepted terminology?
Not according to the link I just provided you and I love how you added “one person” which is not any part of the definition.
Which is not what people are complaining about. People are complaining about the repeated SPAM messages caused by the add-on to rapidly repeat the same message about rares being up, dead, or when they die.
Well… that’s the problem with spam report. But I see both sides - someone posts something and if 50+ users report it, the system will silence that person. In the automated world, that makes sense. However, Blizzard should implement a policy where, when a GM reviews a silence, if it was spam, then it should flag any of the people who reported the spam. If those people reported X amount of times in X amount of days, they should then be silenced and be unable to report for X amount of time.
Well, now we know where the misunderstanding is coming from.
That would really help in this situation, because what’s happening isn’t spamming, it’s flooding by an addon. Which is not a player problem - it is a problem in the way the addon works.
I’m surprised Blizz allows addons at all, that they don’t consider it cheating or a threat to their Time Metric god.
So go ahead and read the link I provided. Then feel free to come back and argue your point when you have something other then your own opinion. What I described is the industry accepted definition of spam. You are trying to argue that it is something else except it is not. I even provided you the wiki link and now your big argument is that “wiki is wrong”. Lol moving on.
I find it very sad that you actually believe the things you have posted in this thread. If I were religious I would pray for you, but I am not so you are SOL.
You mean “nonsense” liked linked definitions showing the person I was talking to was incorrect? Maybe nonsense like Blizzard decides what is and is not spam and thus if they say it is, then it is? You mean like pointing out your many fallacies? Yeah total nonsense. Oh and I see your little buddy liked your post that is a clear violation of the forum CoC. Not suprising.
Well someone using an addon is responsible for the actions it does. But I don’t consider it spam either. It’s an automated feature that’s giving information that is useful to other players. Sadly, these players best bet is to remove the addon and now we can all go back to guessing where rares are.
If someone is actually typing out rares as they seem them (I’ve seen people do that and I do it as I’m actually looking for people to join as solo kills aren’t always the quickest or easiest), then that sucks because those people can be punished as well.
Oh and I see your little buddy liked your post that is a clear violation of the forum CoC. Not suprising.
As a forum poster, I can like whomever’s post I want to. Sorry that isn’t a violation of the forum CoC. Trolling, however, IS a violation of the CoC. Ironic, don’tcha think?
Yes which the post you like is doing. Ironic that you would like a troll post. Of course you have called others trolling for disagreeing with you and then when I linked the proof that you were incorrect you decided that proof was wrong.
Oh and I see your little buddy liked your post that is a clear violation of the forum CoC. Not suprising.
I wasn’t going to give the Troll any more food today but I have to ask, What in sam hell are you talking about here buddy ?
