So People are getting silenced for using Rare Share Addons

What else is going on in local chat that people are upset that others are calling out rares?

Putting people on ignore for this isn’t a good idea anyway.

It isn’t the people who are being a nuisance, it is the addon they are using. There are people on my server who are regular contributors to the chat channels using those addons, I miss out on their conversation if I put them on ignore because I don’t like their addon behavior.

So, false reporting them for using something to communicate to let others know that there is a rare up is improper behaviour?

100% Agree. Addon developers should have more common sense than to write to the zone wide chat channels.

How would it be false reporting, if blizzard silences the people ?

Can you point to the section of the ToS which prohibits non-advertising automated add-on message in general?

Have you not read people’s post in this thread? The silences are automatic.

Have you read them ? If they are silenced and the GMs say no to their appeals, it isn’t automatic.

It’s not a false report, it’s spam. Apparently enough people agree that it’s spam that some folks are getting auto punished, or this thread wouldn’t exist.

This part right here that indicates that whatever the community determines is a violation is one, with Blizzard of course reserving the right to say it’s not.

Group A considers it spam, so it is officially spam while Group B says it is not spam but another way of communicating with others across the zone, yet, it is still spam.

Well, that is what you’re saying.

That is not pointing out the part where using an add-on to automate messages is against the ToU. Can you point it out again?

Enough people to kill the community, and enough lazy Blizzard GMs to help them.

Guess once word spreads and enough people get week long silences then they won’t use the addons anymore and you can all go back to playing your solo game in peace.

Telling them to leave the channel, move it to another window, or use their limited ignore space on this because a user is using a spammy add-on.

So, are we not supposed to use chat anymore?

Fine, if I see a rare I’m just going to kill it. Sorry everyone, WoW isn’t meant to be a social game apparently…

Actually no, it says that acceptable standards are determined by both the reporting function and Blizzard’s decision on the matter. That’s literally what it says:

“Acceptable behavior is determined by player reports AND Blizzard’s decision.” It does not say what you just said it does.

Right. And if Blizzard is declining to overturn these silences, then they are defacto supporting it.

This is just one of the reasons I loathe automated systems. But, it’s what we have, so until it changes, that’s what it is.

What does everyone tell others when the others hate all the gold carries or spam or just stupid Trade Channel Stuff.

You again seem to fail to understand that the issue isn’t with one person using this add-on, it is with multiple people that creates rare spam.

Also yes people talking about different stuff is a good use of General. It is why it is there and not for add-ons to spam.

And what do others respond with?

More false equivalency. You can use chat, you can even announce rares, you should most likely be careful of using add-ons that automatically post into public channels and can be considered spam.

Though don’t worry I will continue to manually call out rares (except enforcer, seriously guys he is ALWAYS up).

Fine, you win, congrats. Prepare to see a significant decline in people helping each other. You can have General Chat clear to talk about your favorite toaster brand now, I guess.
