So Overwolf is just going to be allowed to hold a monopoly over addons?

I have been forced to drop WoWup and make the switch against my will. Why is this okay?

I just install them manually. I’m not afraid of Overwolf, I just don’t like their way of doing things.

I 100% agree this API monopoly curse has sucks.

With that said, Curse did put out a new stand alone addon program (basically addon manager without the Overwolf bloatware tacked on) that I recently downloaded and seems to be working well.

Yea. Remember the old Curse that was user friendly, was updated often and had zero malware and xero spyware? Cant get that anymore.

It’s not okay. We’re using both clients here and update the WoWup files first before switching over to the new Overwolf Lite client.

I dont have a problem with Overwolf. why are you not okay with using them?

It’s a company that owns a website. If addon authors only use that site, then that’s where you go. Curseforge has always been owned by someone and not all addons were on the other sites back then either. We’re you this outraged before?

I’ve never been super big into add ons, so I’ve always just done them manually. And seeing all this upset it seems like I’ve dodged a really annoying bullet.

No. Because there was a huge fiasco back in the day with malware and viruses from the old Curse ads.

I was refereeing to the OLD Curse from before that happened. And then once it began happening and became known, they got bought out and it stopped…then it started right back up again.

It might not have the bloatware, but man, does the thing ever run slow. Easily takes at least five times as long as WoWUP ever did to update. I think it took like 15-20 minutes earlier today to update just four addons, and it has been consistently slow with any updates that have come out this week. Leave it to Overwolf to bork an already existing/functioning download client, and just inexplicably make it worse somehow.

Welcome to bad ad revenue systems. Wowhead did it too. So have other websites. Thus far, though, Overwolf owning it hasn’t given my system any warnings since they bought it. So I don’t know where this fake news on ads giving issues is coming from. Neither the website nor either of the apps have ever been an issue.

It used to be way worse in the past. People acting like it is a much bigger problem now than it ever was just like to embellish things.

Thaaaaat sounds like a computer issue my dude. Performance wise they have been pretty close to eachother in my experience with the new client so far.

I’m all for saying bugger off to Overwolf as much as the next guy but I find it really hard to believe it took you 20 minutes to update 4 add-ons without it being either a PC or network issue of some kind.

I got lucky and can still use wowup for TRP3 and DBM since they have alternate source than curseforge for these 2 addons to update automatically.

Not all addon have that benefit, have to double check but i only use these 2 and got lucky in this ordeal at least.

The only difference is the client; WoWUP was fast, new Curse is slow. It’s not my internet speed, system processes aren’t being overloaded or anything, I tested with and without WoW running (used to always run WoWUP with WoW because that’s just when I’d remember), and like I said the slow speed has been consistent all week with various addon updates as they’ve trickled in.

Unless every new addon update is just heavy because 9.2.5 messed something up on the back end for them, the discerning factor is Curse.

I have to be honest, I’ve never experienced any issues with updating through curse. It always takes me just moments to update my addons.

I’m not saying you are lying, I just wonder if there is something else going on. It is a bit curious.
