So no physical authenticators after the 5th?

We’re talking about the folks who don’t here so how does that even matter?

You always have an option to not have any authenticator at all.

I wonder if a new physical authenticator would work after the 5th if you are grandfathered in as it were. I have a couple spares.

pfft, tinfoil hat status requires some crazed reach outside of reality. Nothing I pointed out is untrue and is, frankly, verifiable. Just go to Google Play and see it for yourself.

Securing ones BNet account with 2FA doesn’t even require an online authenticator, which is why the old physical authenticators still work and is the whole point of this thread.

This move by Blizz is all about driving everyone to an app that collects and shares user data. It’s not rocket science.

is not allowed with sms text system with blizzard.

THIS DOES NOT WORK and is NOT ACCEPTED BY BLIZZARD. NOTHING SHORT OF A ACTUAL PHYSICAL PHONE WITH ACTUAL PHONE NUMBER IS ALLOWED.

Can you even get internet without a cell phone nowadays? Most of them REQUIRE a cell phone attached for texts etc.

Phones are $20 and a plan is $15 per month… Should maybe look for ways to make money if that’s the case :3

Money is not the issue at all.

yes. you do not need a cell phone for internet. just a landline.

I can still use my keychain authenticator until the battery finally dies. It still works since I got it in 2007.

Then what is the issue?

I’m not buying a bunch of cell phones that don’t work here just to play a game.

Oh perfect then, It looks like you’ve solved your own “issue”

Skyrim is a GREAT solo game.

Nor do you have to. I feel you’re just arguing to argue now, considering it’s been pointed out numerous times that this doesn’t have anything to do with the physical authenticator.

And as I’ve pointed earlier why this is in an issue for us someone here removed theirs thinking having a tablet was enough and now their screwed because there’s no way to re-add it and those batteries don’t last forever we have a dead one here.

I told you earlier to ask in CS about re-adding the authenticator and if it’s possible to add without phone number. They have the best information on how to get these things to work.

Or FFXIV since they do their own security app and the google one like EVERYONE else does except Blizzard

Just as a reality check, everyone knows that an authenticator isn’t required to play Wow? There are certainly benefits to having one but it isn’t required.

I’m sorry, but I witness kids every day from the worst financial situations imaginable distracted by their smart phones in school. And I call BS on not being able to own one just because you live in a rural community. My cell phone works just fine when I leave the city.

If you choose not to own one, that’s exactly what it is - a choice. But get used to this for far more serious applications than a game. When banks and utility companies finally do away with passwords, you will need a cell phone to access your financial accounts. Because the next phase in security is all going to be held behind a biometric gate.

Passphrases are stored locally on your phone (in an authenticator app), not online, so they are one layer more secure than the current system of passing passwords to secure servers, that then compare the encrypted password with its password hash table.

The most common access to biometric protection is your cell phone’s facial ID or fingerprint. Many laptops also have both of these built it these days (Windows Hello, etc).

Banks, Google and many other businesses are trialing this system now, and will be using it to replace password access in the future.

This system certainly isn’t without its own flaws, but because “password” data is stored locally, is never directly sent to an internet server and is protected by biometric data, it is better than what we have now.

I could go into more detail about how passwords are easily rendered useless once someone gains access to a server hash table, no matter their complexity, but it would add to what is already too long a post.

Bottom line, get used to owning a smart phone and using it for authentication if you want access to anything remotely financial, medical or personal online.
