Curious if Sony owns FF 14 company?
Sony does not own any Final Fantasy title.
Square Enix does.
There’s a reason FF14 is on Xbox and PC as well.
And SE isn’t any more loyal to Sony than any other company. They strictly care about who pays more. They’d make the inevitable Final Fantasy 17 Xbox exclusive if Microsoft offered more than Sony.
They’ve made all but the 13 trilogy and 16 available on Switch because Nintendo paid good money for them for the Asian countries they knew they could get $$$ selling them in. (You have to import some of them, like Final Fantasy 7/8 Dual Cartridge, cause they didn’t release in the west)
Honestly, if the rumored specs for the Switch 2 are true, I would not be shocked if the next Final Fantasy game is a Switch 2 exclusive, cause I have a feeling Nintendo would pay way more than Sony for it. Lmao.

They used to have loyalty to sony. But Sony botched up ff7 rebirth with their rules, which made SE angry at them and sworn not to make exclusives for them anymore.

Square Enix is the owner.
Square Enix owns FFXIV.
They used to be buddy buddy with Sony but the relationship seems to have soured fairly recently.

No sony does not own Square Enix and therefore does not own FFXIV.
Well it’s release on Xbox was rather recent was on Playstation far longer and if you’re trying to make a point about exclusives Microsoft isn’t any better on that the only difference is Xbox exclusives usually aren’t received as well as Sonys exclusives. Like last Xbox exclusive that had a significant amount of hype around it was Starfield but it died down moments after release when everyone realised it was just Skyrim/Fallout 4 in Space.
For those not in the loop. SE has come to the realization that just about every game they released with Sony exclusivity failed to meet the projections that would have made said exclusivity worth it, which made their other issues significantly worse.
They are currently trying to pivot.
SE is going away from exclusives which was recently announced.
Therr has been some good rumors about Sony trying to buy SE as well. While nothing official, with their latest quarterly announcements, I wouldn’t put it as a good possibility in the future if things don’t turn around.

Yeah, it’s pretty clear their sales numbers on FF16 and FF7 Rebirth took a pretty significant hit from PS5 exclusivity. FF7 Rebirth is a serious Game of the Year contender too which probably hurts even more lol.
And before that they were exclusive to Nintendo.

Square Enix swapped to Sony because Nintendo do wanted to stick to cartridge at the time, and was very limiting vs optical disc.
There’s even a tech demo video of FF7 being made for the N64.
This was also at the time Nintendo was iron-fisty about keeping games on their platform, so the move soured their relationship with Square.
Sony has botched a lot of their relationships with their developers making exclusive content.
If it means console exclusivity goes the way of ol’ yeller then im fine with it. Just need Bethesda to let Elder Scrolls 6 go to PS5.
That botched relationship gave us the Phillips CD-I and plenty of Memes from Mario and Zelda with it.

I think the sales of 7:rebirth being so down is going to make them reconsider console exclusivity in the future.
stop the exclusive crap a lot of ppl are on pc im starting to
think a lot of these consoles devs are finally getting a clue.
just funny 2 me they make games FROM pcs but they cant give
us the pc ver game until like 2 yrs later wtf lol.
they were also considering bc of the sales of ff16
they are no sooner just release these games on pc after they drop ff14 expac.
think 7r was another big push they need. pls se give us games.
If nintendo could get their act together and build something like a steam deck equivalent
They pick up games like ff7 rebirth and ff16.
Cant import AAA games to ancient hardware that barely runs something like nier automata.
