There’s a reason why you’re on ignore.
Nothing cuts as deep or cleanly as the truth. Still we lose something when we refuse it.
Some enemies are immune to snares or stuns, and some have strong or constant ranged attacks.
Hunters (any spec) can easily handle those in a way this mage will never be able to.
Depending on mob density, kiting is not an option either.
My greatest annoyance in delves are the cultist lookout. Constant, uninterruptible 500-600k ranged shots. It’s extremely annoying to deal with even 2 of those as a mage.
If I could just kite and CC everything, I would solo the whole game.
You can interupt them as mm…
You can’t interrupt ranged physical attacks and counter shot has a CD too.
You can frost trap, stun, disorient, knockback, knock up.
Like I said skill issues EVERYWHERE
Can even los…
Terrible. Terrible.
Like I just said, some enemies are CC immune.
Any rare elite in current content that a Hunter can easily solo with a pet and won’t be able to do a thing to them without a pet tank.
Or soloing dungeons.
For easy regular play, any spec works, that’s not the point of discussion.
If I LoS a cast, I can’t cast either, and you NEED aimed shot for MM to work.
I even gave you a specific example: Cultist Lookout.
Get 2-3 of those on you in a high tier cultist delve without a pet and you’re dead, no questions asked.
So… and not to misrepresent you here. This is a big issue because if you attack a rare in low level gear meant for a group or mass pull in a high level delv the game becomes harder…
Im crying, im sobbing big butterfly tears even. How could I have been so wrong! Ye gods… it wasn’t skill issue at all. O lordy
So you admit that hunters are losing a huge advantage in PvE?
Glad you finally got that.
I suppose that is what a crutch is isn’t it. You don’t have to cc, kite, los, use dots, interact with mobs when you have a sacrificial meat blob with bad ai.
Clearly its more compelling to afk a bit and stagnant
I mean, it sounds like a really big change to adopt, but if I consider that there are three specs and I have a sniper option, a melee option, and a beast collection option it’s not so bad. I’ve always felt Marksman doesn’t get the fun pets, now they get a zero fun pet and you can run BM for solo.
Sorta works out, I’d say. It means I’ll have to really consider a 2 spec approach. But that’s possible.
I literally just explained it for you.
I literally spelled it out.
A pack of 4 is common in delves.
You use freezing trap on one.
You kite the remaining three through tar trap and binding arrow. You can use bursting shot to get a little more room. If you waited a while after throwing your first tar trap to pull the pack, maybe it comes off CD quickly enough to use a again.
Through all of that, you can definitely kill one of the three mobs charging at you. But now you’re kiting the remaining two in an enclosed space. Imagine trying to do that in a delve with a candle, air purifier, or oxygen buff.
And that’s not even considering that MM relies a lot on standing still to fire heavy-hitting shots, which is something the devs explicitly said they want to lean into more for the spec. Kiting when you play a spec that has to stop and stand still to do decent damage slows everything down.
And that’s not even considering packs with spellcasters and other mob types that aren’t easy to kite.
There are half a dozen issues with expecting MM to just kite for 100+ yards on every single pull, and to spend every single boss fight kiting because if they stand still they’re getting smashed for 30-60% of their hp, which means they’re doing boss fights largely without their best damage abilities, and boss fights already tend to be annoying HP sponges in delves.
That’s the point.
Another example, the three Rares in the elite bee area in the the Isle of Dorn.
A hunter can sic the pet and deal with each rare alone.
A petless hunter is dead since there’s no space to kite without aggroing the bees and blobs that hit like a freaking truck.
I do agree that it’s a crutch, but a very useful and frequently used one.
Not to mention people who have played the spec with their pet for years and bonded with them (the often forgotten Role Playing part of the game).
I still miss my perma water elemental pet.
Kiting casters is easier, you also cycle frost trap to stagger the mobs more. Explosive shot should be used when staggering marching casters as well.
Not a bad base though. You won’t budge me on that being worse design then using a pet as mm.
You significantly misrepresented there. The big issue is MM hunters just won’t be able to do the same delves that BM or SV in identical gear can do because losing the pet is a massive survivability loss with no apparent replacement in the reworked talents.
You can’t avoid pulling ~4 mobs in most delves. There will always be a pack of 4+ enemies somewhere in the delve that you have to pull together. By design. It’s disgusting that you tried to twist that as “mass pulling”. It’s also shameful that you tried to imply this would only be a problem for people undergeared for the delve, which is objectively wrong. And it’s downright absurd that you tried to imply that appropriately levels delves that match your item level are “meant for a group.”
You’re doing olympic-level mental gymnastics to be a contrarian here, but acting like you’re the one dispensing truth despite everyone else being able to spoonfeed you detailed rebuttals while all you can seem to muster are insulting replies that rely on 3 strawman arguments to even attempt to stand up. Do better.
I don’t believe all specs should be equal in delves. The group was also a response to world rares.
I don’t believe every spec should be equal in every piece of content and I can’t see a pet with near zero interaction as a good addition to the spec.
It has more of a purpose in pvp. You could build a strong argument for that but so few people pvp I doubt many realize why they take pets.
Most are going to be using lone wolf since its a flat damage increase and provides a better overall.
The only content you wouldn’t be using it is world and delves, but mm’s kit is similar to a mages. They have a lot of cc’s amd such to where not having a pet isn’t an issue. Especially combined with their burst.
But raiding, dungeons, pvp, or anything group related. The vast majority don’t use a pet unless they need hero.
Why? The majority usually dictate changes.
If it’s not popular, why would they keep redundant things around?
Now I’m not saying it’s okay they removed pets because I think removing the choice is silly, especially to replace it with a place holder eagle. But thats just how things work. Not just with mm, but game wide.
Also, you can use Emergency Salve without resetting the mobs when you have an active pet with threat.
It’s clear that the changes favor and might even improve group play, but greatly nerf MM solo play.
Let’s not pretend that mm doesn’t have a lot of cc’s and such.
A number of traps, slows, knockbacks.
You just have to play it closer to a mage now and not bank on your pet carrying you to victory.
