So many quitting...It's kind of depressing

That sounds like you are saying that if an MMO is bad, it’s because it’s an MMO, or maybe that MMO games can’t be good.

MMO games can be good, but if you’re going to look at every MMO through the Rose-Colored Goggles of WoW, then absolutely nothing is going to suit your fancy because what you want, is WoW’s Golden Years which are, in fact, quite gonzo.

And hey, I understand the sentiment!

I loved Final Fantasy Tactics.

Every time I try a TRPG, I end up comparing everything in it to FFT and… I find myself not enjoying anything at all because nothing can do what FFT did, and better. What I really want, is FFT Remastered, and Remastered PROPERLY.

So I know the feeling.

If I ever want to enjoy the TRPG genre ever again, I need to take off the FFT Rose Colored Glasses… and try to see another game’s merits.

That’s what you people need to do with MMOs. Stop making excuses… “This game has too many cutscenes” or “This game doesn’t have PvP” or “This game doesn’t look as good graphically”… just try to enjoy the game for what it is and be willing to accept that all games have flaws.

Personally the earlier poster who said he had trouble playing XIV for much because of the cutscenes… dude, there’s more to do in the game than just MSQ. Set a goal. Maybe 2-3 MSQ quests per session, and then spend the rest of the time running roulettes, crafting, etc. Take it in chunks.

No need to rush to the end, and as you get further into the game, maybe the cutscenes will grow on you. Or maybe you just weren’t in the mood.

I love XIV and its story but there are a few times where I’ll go “eh, I’m not in the mood for this right now…” and I’ll wait and try the MSQ sometime when I am feeling more up to it. That is a thing that happens to nearly anybody, including those who love the game.

I am aware.

The game will continue to decline since they refuse to address the real problems.

Relic Hunting in Korthia as well as Time-Gated content burns anyone out.

“You don’t need/deserve good gear! That should only go to 1% of the playerbase!”

Exactly this.

The game originally thrived because it was so accessible by everyone. Even those with toasters for computers.

Everyone seems to forget those golden days.

Those same people say gear doesn’t matter only skill does.

That doesnt sound like that, you are putting your understanding in my words.

It is simply a technical statement.

A solo game is made of one dreamworld, it does not need to accommodate diverse intricate systems to support online playing, let alone massive online playing.

You can do with a solo game much more than you can do with a MMORPG, because the technology involved must do a ton of things in a MMORPG that a solo game doesnt.

So comparing the two is unwise and doesnt really tell anything about either. It is like saying driving a sports car makes you question why a SUV doesnt run that fast.

Well, the way you worded that did leave it open to that interpretation, and I’ve seen that kind of logic being used plenty of times in the past, so… it was an easy interpretation to take.

But, it’s nice to know that was not the intention, and yes, singleplayer games are oftentimes easier to do well, because introduction of multiplayer is always a burden on a game.

Take, for instance, the plethora of single-player games that have multiplayer options. There’s plenty of stuff that works differently, or doesn’t work at all, or entire parts of the game that are not present in the multiplayer mode depending on the game in question.

I would have to say, though, that XIV strikes a very nice balance. You get the Singleplayer JRPG format in solo questing and cutscenes, but yet you get the MMO gameplay from dungeons, raids, the marketplace, and PvP as well as stuff like guilds (FCs as they are called in that game).

It’s… a rather unique approach, and I’m glad SE seems to embrace the idea. You get the best of both worlds with that approach.

We all thought that BFA was a decent expansion compared to Legion … and Shadowlands just - pushed everyone away . So sad.
I enjoy Classic Era and TBC.
Logging only in Shadowlands only for time walking weeks . That’s it :scream:

I think the only thing I’d wanna really do in WoW anymore, is Wrath Classic.

Or maybe… maybe… a little TBC Endgame if they ever remove the rep grinds for Heroics.
