Honestly not to be “that guy” but the classic dungeons are ez mode compared to retail.
What you are seeing is people not remembering how to do them properly because most of us were young 15 years ago and all over the place when it came to the game.

yes easy retail where tanks just got touch once for instant active threat. pleb alert
Sure.
In a raid.
If they were bad then it is on you to educate them. When i tanking dungeons in vanilla if a group appeared to not know what they are doing. I will stop in my tracks and pretty much ask if it is anyone first time.
Then in a non demeaning way. I will gently explain to them what they are doing wrong and how they can improved for any future run. As a tank. You are the leader. You are in charge. It is up to you to teach them how to play corretly.
In turn they will share the knowledge with other people on their next run and then like a chain everyone will know.
Dont come here and vent about it. Chances are they really dont know how threat work. Tell them how to decurse teach the mage what a curse icon look like.
Let them know to not attack until they see two or three stack of sunder on a mob. Teach them the dps order skull x star and cc order is moon and circle.
It migjt take a bit out of your time to do this but the end results (If you do it in a non confrontational way) is a very grateful healer and 3 potential new friends. You will never know how high a scrub today might reach tomorrow and it would be you coming to him/her for something.
So be kind. Be gentle. Have patience and they will learn like eager school children. Berate them and they will dig in and be confrontational like children.
Unless they refuse to listen to you, repeat the same mistakes, be adamant that it is NOT their fault and that they tanked in wrath and is a pro at tanking.
I had that. The group did not last long. We all tried helping him. He spat the dummy
Seriously, we tried our best. But this guy just did not want to hear it. Our poor healer couldn’t keep up because he wouldn’t let us stop and drink after every few pulls. He was so certain that he knew how threat works and we were wrong
Then as the leader you can uninvite him but that is extreme. Rarely do i ever run into someone so obstinate. I have when i was healing seen a tank instantly berate someone for doing it wrong. And the person continue to do the wrong thing. Its because of the harsh lanaguge used. If you were politem the other three in your group can see him as reasonable. If its all four of them. Hearth out. You are a tank. There is always a group waiting.
I wasn’t even the leader, his friend was. A lot of us just left after a while. None of us got nasty, but when the healer gave up and left we just couldn’t be bothered with them anymore.
agreed lol. as a tank i always have to tell people to give me a few secs to get rage and threat. they just want to dps like nuts right away. had to leave some groups cause they are morons
This here did not start in Wrath, this crap was going on when I started to play in 2007. Don’t take shots at later expansions, there were plenty of people that did not care or would pull crap just to pull crap long before Wrath was released.
No.
If they want to group with others, it is their job to l2p.
If someone asks I’m all to glad to help. But if players aren’t interested in investing any time into learning how to play the game, that’s on them, not me.
I hope every group you ever join has a suicidal mage in it pulling aggro on every mob. Arrogant jerk.
There are bad tanks ill admit. When that happen then if ghe tank is not willing to listen even after you were polite then it is a lost. If you sniped at him with snide comments then he might hace been stubborn for stubborn sake.
Pretty sure after you guys left his friend and him talked.
Too bad the game doesn’t explain it or come pre-packaged with Omen/Classic Threat Meter…
How are they supposed to understand aggro mechanics if the game explains next to nothing?
I don’t blame them.
It’s just like vanilla!
Nice assumption on your part, this was a problem when I started in 2007 and I am sure it was taking place when the game first came out. So if you want to blame retail for this type of issue, then you need to blame everyone that first began the game in 2004 that either did not care or did what they choose to do because they could. Course they would be removed from the groups back then for pulling crap or not listening.
As an aside - Earth Shock can be helpful when that lone mob runs off to smash the face of the healer. I recently ran RFC and rather than force the tank to keep chasing down mob, I’d pull the mob back with an Earth Shock because I was standing right near the tank in the pulls. I was an ‘off-tank’ and ‘off-heals’ in the run as Shaman tend to be (especially early on before our talents really start to specialize us) That being said, hopefully, most shammies will learn what the skill tooltips actually mean when it says, ‘causes threat’ after a period of time and possibly getting hollered at. Of course, it is always more helpful for someone to be gentle in their approach to teaching new players.
People go nuts the second I pull (or they pull instead.)
Progression Deadlines, Yo!
I almost feel like you were spying on my SFK run last night. 2 mages would instantly start arcane explosion spam as soon as anyone pulled. Warrior tried to tell them he needs time to aggro, especially if it was multiple mobs because he doesn’t have much in terms of aoe aggro management at that level. He was only met with “I bet you’re just an LFR hero on retail” “what do you play on retail” “just cleave them and you’ll have aggro” etc.
I’m not going to win the popular vote but I have to be that person. Being a heavy dpser from vanilla, the majority of tanks are garbage. I played tank too, in vanilla and in bc.
If you’re going to be a tank, assume the role of leader. Assign targets. Enforce a kill order. If you can’t beat your best dpser on threat, it’s a you problem and not a them problem. Strong dps is ALSO something you can consider part of YOUR survival. If you kill mobs fast, you don’t have to live forever.
Use your taunt. It guarantees you time to build aggro. After a couple sunders and a revenge, start alting through enemies and spread some hate. Come back to kill target if you need to supplement.
Some tanks just are plain garbage and blame other people who are doing a great job for their lackluster play.
