So I've decided to work on Legion Pathfinder

cause why not? I did do the grind for void elves after all. Can’t be all that bad

Not going to lie, its rather tedious. At least I have a rep boost

I feel sorry for people who came back to the game and don’t have those old ones.

Honestly not sure why previous expansion pathfinders aren’t just lifted.

I do not understand it either.
I haven’t done the WoD either, but I can’t stomach the idea of doing it all again. Its just not very fun.

Well, if you’re gonna do it, I can’t think of a better time than between now and Jan 7th (when the WoW Anniversary Bonus XP run out).

Good luck!

Because players have to invest ‘time’ into getting these achievements. That is the only reason. Gating is all the rage here at Blizzard.

They have an entire floor of devs dedicated to making things take as long as humanly possible in the game, while still remaining within the expansions time limits I’m sure of this

Imagine if you had to complete every Pathfinder before you could move onto the next expansion content.

Sort of like with FFXIV you can either do the ENTIRE story or pay like $60 to skip it.

Because you didn’t earn it.

By your logic at the end of each expansion why isn’t every player gifted full raid mythic loot to level in the next expansion?

I think the WoD one was fairly easy but cant remember well

…They are.
At the end of every expansion, the first gear you receive is mythic entry level.
This is what occurred at the end of every expansion since TBC.
Even at the highest levels of gear (legendary), the gear lasted halfway up the leveling process.

This is part of why WoW has issues with previous expansions not being enjoyed by most of the player base. You’re asking people to invest in it the same way they invest in the newet expansion

Except it’s mostly irrelevant since you hardly ever go to that continent anymore except when some random storyline quest might send you there (I had to go to Valsharah for the war campaign!)

Are you really jealous that someone would get it for free after it no longer serves a useful purpose?

(For the record I already have WOD/Legion PF - just saying…)

EDIT: also like above poster said - next expansion out-of-the-gate gear is basically equivalent to mythic raid gear from the last expansion.

This is literally why I’m not playing FFXIV. I tinkered a bit in ARR, quit. Got coerced into trying out Stormblood because it sounded neat. Then looked at my level 50 White Mage that was leveled Pre-ARR, and the ~600 go fer quests that I’d have to complete to sniff Stormblood content, and promptly let my subscription lapse.

ooph, and here I was contemplating FFXIV.
What is with devs and gating things?

Whoever designed highmountain needs to be shot.
I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get to a WQ. That’s not enjoyable, thats tedious

To be perfectly fair, if you’re starting a fresh character in ARR, you probably do the majority of this as you play through the game.

However, I was not a fresh character. I was there during the entirety of 1.0 when the game was in developement Hell. And when ARR dropped, entirely changed the game, and most importantly - snatched away abilities I had already earned via Conjuror class quests and locked them behind WHM class quests - I was done. So now I have a max level for ARR character that has to do low level ARR chores before it can move on to Heavensward and content designed for the level it’s at.

Edit to insert this here: It actually kind of feels like ARR and the expansion after want to punish me for being an early adopter and playing/paying during the entirety of 1.X while they were overhauling the game they dropped the ball on.

I suppose I could in theory start a new character, but I like the one I have. I could play a class I didn’t level too much, but if I didn’t level it already there’s kind of a reason and you get into ‘why am I playing this thing I don’t really like’ territory.

TBH the story isn’t bad per se, it’s just so many useless quests that mean nothing.

“Go speak to (NPC)”

“Meet (NPC) at (Zone)”

“Talk to (NPC) you literally just talked to in the other zone”

“Report to (NPC) at hub area”

“Report to other NPC in same hub area”

That’s literally the entire “story” of FFXIV, hundreds upon hundreds and HUNDREDS of these “talk” quests where all you do is run up to an NPC and talk to them, with a dungeon every few levels.

It’s so boring and pointless, and the fact that Square not only requires it to be completed (it’s many, many hours of these quests per expansion), the only way around it is to pay cash.

I know we complain around here that WoW services don’t go on sale enough or this and that about Tokens, but at least we aren’t looking at full blown paywalls to avoid the most boring 60+ hours of Final Fantasy story you’ll ever see in your life.

I know. I did put some effort into them. But after ~20 hours of questing I checked my progress, discovered I was less than halfway through a story I did not care about, and I broke.

I did it up until Stormblood, it was so tedious and awful that when I finally got to Stormblood leveling content I no longer had any motivation to actually PLAY Stormblood any further than simple level cap and unsub.

The one thing I would say was really awesome is the flight system in FFXIV is way better than WoW. All you do is fully explore a zone and collect flight nodes in it to unlock flight for that zone.

Takes like an extra hour of running around in a zone to unlock flight in it, pretty simple and that helped motivate me to complete everything in the zone.

I have a really low tolerance for fetch questing. I can handle it in WoW because there’s always the option to take a break, do a dungeon, do some PvP, play a little of what I’m actually here for. And once I hit max level, I’m pretty much done with it. Maybe go back and do a little here or there if I need gold, but that’s it.

People that think all MMO players are here for the lame go fer quests or the story are kinda missing the forest for the trees methinks.

It’s an awesome grind though. Because Surimar is amazing.

The issue is outside of WQ’s im stuck on the rep grind.

I do wish they had kicked the Legion World Quest system into overdrive when BFA launched. Like, finish one World Quest another immediately repopulates so you’re not stuck waiting 24 hours with no way to progress the thing you want to progress.
