So im gonna start this discussion

OP literally stated it was an argument. That means the post was 100% intended to…start an argument. That’s literally bait, and there’s nothing honest about it, and many HAVE given valid answers, just because you don’t agree with them doesn’t mean their answers are invalid.

only if you’re offended by OPs question, but it doesn’t display as an insult, only an honest question

you personally felt it insulted you because you think OPs mocking you when she never was in the first place

I don’t want high end raiding/key gear, but the question can easily be turned on its head.

What is there to do after one has reached the top in terms of gearing their character? At that point there’s not a whole lot that being so geared enables a player to do vs. being just average geared. It gives bit of a lead for the next tier (if it’s not the end of the expansion, since the next expansion will render it all moot), but that’s about it. I guess there’s pushing keys to stupid levels but if that doesn’t appeal to you then you’re gonna be playing alts until the next patch while your hard earned gear collects dust.

The game really needs more things to use all that fancy gear for, because getting gear to get more gear loses its shine after a decade+.

Best answer is that good gear helps with clearing their content faster, more efficient. It might just be korthia rares and world quest, but the difference between 2k dps vs 8k dps is noticeable.

As for whether or not casuals should be fed high end gear without doing high end content. I can agree that if you want the gear, do the content. I’m not expecting mythic raid gear from rep grinding and world quest because the difficulty of what I’m doing should not be awarded with the best items.

Why is that always the fall back you always resort too “you’re offended!”? It’s like you want to bait for arguments sake too.

We don’t. So long as you can fight any open world content while drinking tea, you’re fine.

Excuse me but does the gear for casuals come with completion of raid achievments?

You know as a fan, I can go buy all the same professional gear as a pro basketball player but it doesn’t come with the achievements of being a professional.

Why does it bother raiders so much that those who are casual have gear that is decent?

We know this is a PVE Raider issue because professional PVPers like the challenge of competing. Its why its easy for that side to get quality gear at a decent pace no matter what direction you take to get it.

Character progression is an important part of MMORPGs. Watching numbers get bigger keeps you playing.

Why does the last Mythic boss need to drop loot?

99% of everything in this game shouldn’t matter to 100% of all players, end of that discussion. Maybe some things that directly affect stuff like world first races that have real world consequences maybe need to be manually handled by Blizzard to ensure it’s all fair.

But if you are not a world first raider, if you play casually or at a high level, nothing else matters. I couldn’t care less what you have, be it pets, toys, mounts, gear, transmogs, I only care about what I have and what I can do to better help those around me.

And honestly maybe in the first few weeks of mythic raiding they keep RNG as RNG, but they need to introduce some token system to allow players to be rewarded for the amount of time they put into this game and not solely based on some random RNG, than no one can complain, you get rewarded for directly based on the amount of time you play.

if you weren’t offended you wouldn’t be hostile to OPs question honestly

See, more baiting for argument.

You clearly dont pvp so you wouldnt know the joys of 360noscoping/pwning noobs in random battlegrounds with youre overpowdered mystic rad loot. Its why people pve in the first place, to do random pvp and make sick pvp videos showcasing your noob stomping talents.

The problem with these discussions is that they assume everyone is more or less equally skilled and motivated and that just isn’t true. In my case I’m nowhere near as skilled as even a bench warmer heroic raider. At just this side of 70 years old, I need to out-gear opponents or I’m going to have a healthy serving of the dirt buffet.

As Clark shared some folks can solo mythics with a spork and aluminum foil armor. I am duly impressed by these folks but they aren’t and effective model my gearing needs given the massive differences in skills. For example, at gearing 218 I got annihilated trying to beat Twisting Corridors layer 5 on three different classes. Ouch. As I get to the Korthian max of about 230 I’ll give it another try.

Anyway, the point is I love this game and it’s a very enjoyable part of my retirement but I can’t do what most of you do at the same gearing level. It isn’t a matter of ego or showing off, it is a matter of surviving at my clicking best. So once I get my walker’s gems, I’ll try some harder content, but please don’t assume we all have the same skills and can do the same things at the same gearing levels.

Thank you.

Because it’s a goal to work towards.

Who is saying they want the high end gear and don’t want to do the content for that?

Also, what’s your definition of “high end gear”?

The last boss in Mythic has the same loot table as his heroic counterpart but with Mythic ilvl. The last boss of Heroic drops gear as a proper reward for getting AOTC instead of skipping straight into Mythic.

For me, as a mostly solo/casual player, I don’t want high end raiding gear.
What I want is a progression path for my characters that feels rewarding.
SL did not deliver on that for me, at all.
BFA actually did a better job at it with Horrific Visions gear and Benthic gear, imo.

I’m not going to steal anyone’s raid spot or M+ spot. I just want to feel like my character is getting stronger as I invest more time into them.
I enjoyed the Badges/Justice and Valor systems because I could earn them doing a variety of things and I was always working towards a goal.
Korthia tried to recreate this, but if you didn’t devote a lot of hours into grinding it took too long to feel any progress there. It didn’t help that it was just another rehashing of Timeless Isle but smaller and with annoying mob density in most areas.

I want to feel like I’m playing an RPG, not some e-Sports lobby game.

first off, Casual =/= trivial content.

Through a number of discusions regarding “Casual” players it has become apparent that no one thing can define a Casual player.

someone who only plays one day a week, is that a causal vs someone who plays every single day?

The person playing one day a week may push 25+ keys and raid Mythic farm. is that what a casual is? because then “casuals” have a lot of work to even be competitive in that category.

Say the person playing 18 hours a day, only does professions and the AH. is that a hard core player? or is that a casual player?

are we defining casual players based on content difficulty?

a player who only does normal Raid, but also 10+ keys. and 1800 bracket pvp on 5 alts, is that casual?

are they only doing that level of content because the gear requirement is higher?

is a RP player a casual player when they manage massive scale RP events?
the gear from higher difficulty content may be the perfect mog for the next event.

if its only wPvP that a player does, is that “casual?” do you expect someone doing wPvP to only need green and blue items in order to one shot the max geared sanctum player? or to have competitive advantage vs the Duelist geared players?

what defines a causal? the pet battler?
