So if someone is blatantly racist

do you guys do anything?
cuz this guy called this other guy a term that antisemetics use that starts with a K, in an eye of the storm game.

I’ve never heard anything ever done other than a slap on the wrist mute. do you guys do anything more? or no? cuz im wondering if I should report or if its a waste of time.

All reports are looked at and if they violate chat policies they will be silenced for 24hr the first time and double every time stick around here long enough and u will many player complaining about unfairly silenced only to be told other wise.

You’ll want to remove the name and realm. Naming and shaming is not allowed here.

Yes reports are acted upon, but reports are not accepted here, so please remove the name.

From what I recall from reading several blue posts, some of which were from Master himself, first-time offenders for trash posting in chat will typically receive a short-handed silence. Every subsequent offense normally just doubles if I recall. Memory is fuzzy on this, sorry. I assume people are silenced if they’re reported for illegal chat that they did engage in, but you won’t get any information on what happened to them. However, I don’t know if Blizzard still does this, but they used to send in-game mail telling you that action was in fact taken as a result of the report, although obviously they wouldn’t specify anything. Again, fuzzy memory, sorry.

The whole “master” thing is getting kinda creepy.

All I can say Galadedrid, right click and report them for language and then put them on ignore. Judging by the gnashing of teeth here on the CS forums, reporting works.

They won’t if it’s not reported. That person may not be squelched or silenced right away, but be sure that every report is seen to eventually. If only you knew how many times people have come here to complain about being silenced or suspended and they weren’t even doing anything! Only to be reminded of some unsavory situation they participated in a few weeks prior.

So yes. Right click, report and move on. Two bits of advice I would add to that - do not engage with the person you’re reporting at all. For some reason people feel the need to tell the person that they’re reporting them and it turns into a willing conversation that may take away the severity of the report. Secondly, I would not encourage others to report that person. Even in a BG. It could come back if the troublesome person reported you for inciting harassment, and you’ll be looking at your own punishment.

Reports will do something, yes. Report creates a ticket for GMs to see, GM looks at it, and will apply a penalty if needed. Racist speech is very much against the rules and people get silenced for it quite frequently, and then come here and say they got “silenced for no reason by mass reporting” and other such nonsense. But all this does require using the report feature.

“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing,” as the proverb goes.

Agree with Dathrel. See that “mute for no reason” post all the time here.

Report report report… And if others thought maybe what you said was racist I am sure they will do the same. Leave it to Blizzard.

Advice? At least until the election, stay out of trade chat. I turned mine off unless I am looking for something specific. I have seen and reported very racist items from both sides of the political spectrum.

Just for some clarification, Galadedrid, we generally start with the proverbial slap on the wrists, by hitting the account with a short term silence, often 24 hours. That serves as a “Hey, you haven’t violated our chat policies before so this is a reminder of what they are, that we take them seriously and we encourage you to abide by them to keep our games a fun and enjoyable place for everyone”.

From there, those penalties start to increase, often by multiples of two and if the person doesn’t realize that the behavior is not tolerated they can find their in-game experience impacted a good deal.

Please report the behavior when you see it. I know it can sometimes seem like you are swimming up river, but the more folks use the tools that are available to help deal with this behavior, the bigger impact it can have.

I couldn’t agree more. Report these people whenever you see their messages. If it’s vulgar or racist, report for language. If it’s a flood of advertising, report for spam. Now there’s sometimes a little bug that occurs when reporting. A great deal of your chat history might get cleared, which might include some messages you didn’t want removed. But that’s something I am willing to accept in order to continue my barrage of reporting while sitting in town waiting for a group to form. (But really, Blizz, you ought to fix that :grinning: ).

It should only remove chat from the person you are reporting, as it places them on a temporary ignore as well. If you are losing additional lines of chat from other people you didn’t report, that should be reported as a bug.

Yeah… but unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happening. It wipes everything, sometimes all the way back to system alerts from the last dungeon I was running. Really weird. I’ve reported it before, but still not fixed. Oh well.

Fixing a bug is a process of steps.

First, is knowing about it. While a single report is valuable, that does provide impact data. If you are the only one experiencing it, or maybe just reporting it, that shows very low impact overall. If that is the case, there are generally a lot of higher impact issues that may take priority.

Second, is being able to reproduce it. I haven’t seen any others reporting the issue, nor have I experienced it myself, so it could be a you issue, or an issue with a specific addon. More reports here, definitely help. It’s one on of the reasons I recommend posting in the Bug Report forum as visibility allows others who may also experience the same thing to add their voice to an existing thread.

It doesn’t for me. It does move the channel up quite a bit. If you are having this issue, right-click the channel and move it to a new chat window, then report the lines.

It doesn’t actually remove the chat, it moves it up in the chat. I don’t remember if I saw the issue when I was running a fresh UI.

I’ve had the same thing happen fairly often when reporting chat; but only after I started using the Prat addon.

The issue went away when I removed the addon and did a UI reset so I never made a bug report on it since it seemed an addon issue.

I like Prat overall so I still use it, I just accept that by using it I’ll have my recent chat wiped (or possibly moved, I’ll have to check next time) whenever I report.

This is not accurate. They have never revealed what punishment was taken against an account because of your report (outside of someone initiating a thread on here).

What you may be remembering is back when you had to open an in-game ticket to report someone, the response was always “we will investigate and take appropriate actions according to our policies”. Those “appropriate actions” may have been a suspension, or even nothing at all.

Actually, it’s something rather new that they’re doing. If a report of yours results in an account action, for example if you reported a botter, then you now receive an in-game mail thanking you and letting you know your report made a difference.

It’s a way for Blizz to show that player reports are indeed helping!

What do you mean by this?

Not a bad idea. But also it doesn’t seem like that’s what they were referring to.
