So I tried FF14...and, uh, what?

Nah, there’s that word again: troll.

The guy wrote nicely about how he felt. He didn’t slam anything and didn’t necessarily put WoW on a pedestal.

Gotta read intent, feelings; hear with better ears.

Not telling you what to do. Sorry if it came out that way. But, considering the multitude of topics on this subject this one just feels fairly innocuous.

I haven’t tried it OP. Really haven’t read the multiple threads either. Just seemed like some big deal; “the WoW killer” lol!

Of course asked my sons and they just told me it was no big deal.

Glad you’re back!

FFXIV is where I go when I’m done with current WoW content. FFXIV is new-ish to me so it has a ton of content for me to work through, and, sadly, I’m running out of old content to fall back on in this game that interests me.

I don’t understand the forum’s fascination with having to pick one game TBH. Play what provides entertainment at the time.

He bashed a new game and didn’t even provide that obligatory but crucial detail of how long he played it.

Anyone who has played FF14 to max level knows that the flow of combat that OP complained about gets much better at higher levels.

And this proves he’s a troll?

Exactly, with in 3 global cool downs I can get 6 abilities used on my bard.

Why would he not mention how long he had played the game for? Coming from WoW, he should know that MMOs start off slow with the number of abilities that are at your disposal.

That’s a funny way of putting it, lol.

:woman_facepalming:t2:

Ok… cry peace. We each have our way of reading. Just tired of “troll” “toxic” ect getting used wrong until they are meaningless. Didn’t mean to pick on you personally, though I can see I did. Still think you’re wrong. I see three posts up anyone could call “trolling” right now.

So :peace_symbol: ?

I actually did say how long I played it, you just didn’t bother to read the whole thread.

I played for a month (over that, actually) and got to max level. Still wasn’t satisfied with the feel of the game.

If you point out WoW’s good aspects, you’re a troll.

If you point out FF14’s bad aspects, you’re a troll.

Sounds about right here. lol

OP the majority of the people that are saying Final Fantasy is a better game are not long-term well players. They are mostly mop or later players. These people are console gamers coming into wow. They want more of an RPG than an Mo because that’s what they are used to

Good job being disingenuous. I called him a troll because he didn’t put what level he got to in the OP while the tone came across as bashing FF14. While he added it in later posts, most people aren’t going to go through the entire thread to find that information.

Edit: posting on alt.

Hi, me and three others who are all long term players of WoW (I started a couple weeks after launch) that moved to XIV would like to know where you got your statistics from.

Please and Thank you.

I am having troubles drawing in enough context for what you might be having troubles with, Rathbite. Any chance you could say what class / job you tried? The class picked could be a play style you didn’t want. Melee pretty much all use 3 move combos though. Tanks included.

These are some that are kind of equivalents I can remember for some of the FF14 job classes compared to some WoW specs.

Red Mage - Balance Druid
Black Mage - Arcane Mage
Summoner - Warlock. It also has cooldown phases.
White Mage - Holy Priest + Druid HoTs
Scholar - Discipline Priest + fairy pet that might resemble the Mist Monk Statue the most.

You played a job to 30 and made up your mind about the combat? That’s like playing a warrior to level 10 and wondering why you have 2 buttons.

FFXIV combat gets faster over the levels. You get combo skills and abilities you can use while in GCD. It gets faster. There is a reason why there is a longer GCD than WoW.

I first started Final Fantasy XIV after A Realm Reborn released. I was still very much into WoW at that time, but was branching out into other MMO’s–even when I had responsibility as a roleplaying guild leader here in this game. I heard a lot of good things about Final Fantasy XIV and joined my community once I was able to afford the game and a license. I leveled a Thaumaturge to 30, then learned I needed to level Archer to 15 in order to qualify for the Black Mage job crystal.

Now, I could have just done that grind. It’s really easy to do so. It didn’t even take that long at that time, but I felt like my time was better spent elsewhere and just stepped away from FFXIV for about two years.

Then I came back during the lead-up to Heavensward. I opened up a new account and created a new character to level from scratch. I found better appreciation for the game’s story as I leveled and became hooked by the time I got my first job crystal for Paladin.

The gameplay of FFXIV didn’t matter to me. It was familiar and easier to get into. It may have been slower than WoW, but I was all right with that. Literally everything else about the game held it together for me. Then I got to the story in the last ARR patch (5.55) and knew at that point that I was just absolutely hooked.

See, it’s not about the prospect of doing all of the end-game content. It’s just…feeling like you belong in a world that appreciates the efforts you’re making towards making it a better place. Artificial? Sure, but I actually feel like the protagonist in this game–despite there being hundreds of thousands of other “Warriors of Light” running the same zones as I am. I am the main character. I am the one people go to for their troubles.

Compare that to WoW. For basically the entirety of Battle for Azeroth, I wasn’t more important than the NPC’s. I was Sylvanas’ lapdog and Nathanos’s b**ch for pretty much the whole way through–and what frustrated me most is that, in WoW I just run other more prominent NPCs’ errands and barely get any due credit for it.

I’d been playing FFXIV steadily, off-and-on every few months just to get myself caught up, for the last six years. I don’t ever feel like I’m rushed to do anything unless I want to do it. Whereas in WoW everything is made to rush players to the end-game, and only the end-game with very little variation or anything else meaningful to do.

I mean… you’re not wrong.

I mean stay in denial all you want I guess.

The developers just said they plan on securing a new multi-million dollar deal to increase their server capacities due to how many new players they were receiving, even more than they thought.

Also just announced that they got like 160-180% more preorders for their new expansion Endwalker than their critically acclaimed and received Shadowbringers expansion.

:man_shrugging:

Devs say anything to ensure. Going to be funny when they blow all of them from trial players who may be leaving or the majority being folks gaming Refer-a-friend for free time
