So I just recently hit 60

I guess I just wait 9.1 because 160 gear is probably not going to do any good to anyone. Amazing game after 17 years of iteration.

Or you could farm bgs and use covenant gear for 197 > join yolo rbgs to earn conquest for conquest gear and go from there.

Yep. Game is extremely unfriendly to alts/new/returning players. Basically instead of being excited to play the game when you hit 60 and dive into PvP it’s a feeling of dread and despair. No idea how they think this good from any PoV be it time played metrics/user experience/dev vision/etc.

Pretty much, how do you get “time played metrics” when nobody wants to play the game because as soon as they get max lvl they’re at such a disadvantage they just give up and don’t bother.

To answer my own question, you don’t unless you’re blizzard playing dirty and double dipping with token sales to supply boosting…

I mean the people that do grind out alts and stuff have to play 10x more and probably a lot buy tokens for BoE gear/boosts/legendary armor/etc. So I can definitely see them getting something out of this disgusting method. I just don’t see how they could believe it’s more than they’d get if it didn’t turn 90% of people away or how it’s healthy for the game long term.

Its just that I would just love to jump to BGs, but I have to do Torghast for Soul Ash and Covenant Unlocks to Abilities and Conduits. Also every Mage runs with Triune and its from capping Conquest. Like Im expected to kill 42K Triune Mages and alike with 22K HP.

Think Im just going to install Classic and prepare Destruction Warlock for TBC, because atleast it will be some really awesome gameplay right there from start to finish.

Ohh, yikes…

Absolutely!

You could jump into some 2s with a rouge and do just fine even with “low” gear

Triune is from unlocking one reward from the vault, which you can do killing a single LFR boss.

Don’t worry about torg until you’re at least 197, or just jump into LFG and leech a run from a group, even still with the actual quests related to torg I’m pretty sure you get your 190 legendary week1 of doing things.

You get renown from bg wins, at a very fast rate starting from renown 1, as well as from LFR, world boss, and your callings. It doesn’t really slow down til 20+ which is when you’ll want to start doing the quests.

Takes more effort and time to level and gear a char in classic/tbc than it does on live.

Unless something changes before 9.1 there won’t be a catchup in place for you to start the season on the same foot as people who already got rated gear this season

So definitely would recommend getting some gear before end of season even if its really unpleasant

I could do Renown and spam BGs yeah. Maybe its tolerable. I try that.

I just went from 14 to 30 and ilvl 140 to 177 on my DH this week.

Depending on your gold purse you can purchase 168 ilvl. There are weapons at 190 but can be pricey.
Complete the Covenant Campaign.
Do the Daily Covenant Quests while doing the Campaign
Have a Heroic Dungeon queue going in the background ( I was a tank so I just queued when I wanted to).
This weekend I spammed Epic BG’s and received 10K-12K Honor then finished up with 2 Torghast Layer 8 Runs at 177 ilvl.
After my next BG win I should have enough to purchase my first Conquest Weapon.
I hope to do either M+ or LFR tonight and then I plan on crafting my 1st Lego on Tuesday.

It is a lot of work just to get to 180ish ilvl but it can be done quickly. I am hoping that 180-190 is just as fast and I hope to dip my toe in something around 200 ilvl but I am still not expecting to be on a fair playing field.

I am taking into consideration that I am comparing my experience and opponents gear level is attributed to the majority of them playing on a consistent basis and building up their character for months. That is a huge headstart to overcome. I am doing all of this solo without a group feeding my gear or carrying me through content.

It feels like a full time job after my full time job and it sucks but I am the one making the decision to stick around and doing it. A decision I have been considering a lot lately but ultimately I have the power to make it stop.

Is all of this worth it? Time will tell.

See that’s the thing, there hasn’t been 17 years of iteration. There has been a complete wipe and reinvention every expansion. They don’t take lessons learned of what worked and what didn’t work forward beyond the next expansion. It’s like they reset every time.

Classic>Legion seemed like a progression in their PvP gearing model. Slowly every xpac they removed more and more barriers to entry for PvP and leveled the playing field between top and low rated players. TBC had rating requirements on some gear>WotLK basically the same>Cata less>MoP all were removed except weapon>Mop Season 2 and on all conquest gear was equal>WoD was completely equal from the start>Legion was templates so gear was practically irrelevant.

Ion takes over and BfA and Shadowlands return to massive gear disparities the likes of which haven’t been seen since Classic.

Hm good point, I haven’t really sat and thought about the timeline, but you’re correct, it’s only been the two most recent expansions that have been steps backwards as far as pvp accessibility goes.

Is Ion really the guy responsible for re-introducing accessibility problems into pvp for some reason? Like why take 10 steps back? The rating requirement has really wrecked pvp for several of my friends and my wife, and possibly me… havent yet decided if im sticking around or not.

idk maybe he’s a puppet for Activision, but what I can say for sure is he is the game director and that is who is in charge of the game. I can also look up when he was made game director and see the first expansion he was in full control of from start to finish was BfA. Him being responsible is the simplest and most logical answer, but who knows 100% for sure what goes on behind the scenes.
