In PvP, if you are a class with fun CC abilities (Druid/Mage/Rogue) then you will probably get it off fully, and I would say thats more of an issue with spam CC classes not so much the ability.
In PvE its a bit different depending on the content. Raids its rarely useful as many times if you are taking damage… you are going to keep taking damage. There are many minor raid damage mechanics, DoTs, and other abilities that require you to move. It is useful but harder to use properly and can be RNG dependent on you getting a mechanic (such as Liquid Gold on Opulence).
In dungeons it has much better use as damage is often incredibly more predictable and controlled through interrupts/avoidable damage. Of course, it also means You are sitting afk for 4 seconds (usually all you need) to heal. Only times I use it in dungeons is A.) after a trash back to heal myself quickly or B.) the healer cannot keep up so I heal others and hide behind a pillar and use it.
No, it isn’t. There are plenty of situations where an actual heal is much better, particularly if you’re at low health with unavoidable damage incoming. It won’t help you with Grievous, for instance. You need to HEAL above 90% to remove the dot.
Because if a Mage gets breathed on they take more damage than most. I already gave you a scenario, Grievous will continue to kill you starting at 89% health and popping Barrier won’t stop it.
Pretty solid in arena for 2s. I play a holy pally and my buddy plays assassination on his rogue. With all the CC its a insane heal if you can get it off, even if you only get a few ticks its noticeable. That being said I normally dont even get to use it but the few times I do use it it is really good.
You know that classes don’t take damage differently, right? There’s nothing that makes mage take extra damage as opposed to other specs/classes aside from armor type.
I also love how you completely glossed over examples of absorb being better than raw healing.
Because your “example” was dumb. You asked for a scenario where a heal was better than an absorb and I gave you one. You countered with some nonsense about the healer preferring my Barrier to a self-heal.
Then you stated that there is no difference between a Cloth class and any other as far as taking damage.
As someone who regularly heals, I massively prefer a dps have an absorb to a self heal. If you’ve ever healed someone JUST as they’ve topped themselves off to full, you’ll know that pain. Otherwise you can’t.
An absorb prevents damage and therefore prevents me potentially wasting mana. And generally just smooths damage spikes, making them more manageable.
Nah they are clearly the same and why prydaz and resounding protection should have healed on their 30 second interval instead of shielded.
In all seriousness, shields are better, or the same in usefulness to a heal, in 90%+ of scenarios because they can be used preventatively. Getting shielded before something like a 3 stacked tantrum on grong or a wail/cry of the fallen increases your chance of living much more than hoping you get healed in between ticks of damage.
I bring up those 3 since without a defensive all 3 of those will probably outright kill you without any heals. The kicker is conclave could put you in a situation where you literally cannot be healed anyway which is why I really didn’t like that fight on my hunter since I would go to hit Exhileration and have the curse bounce to me right before.
