No, it wasn’t. The outcry on the forums that encompasses less than a single percentage point of the game’s playerbase is not “huge.”
Also, I hate to be rude but please properly structure your sentences because I’m kind of sick of it feeling like I’m decoding a cipher from the Roman Empire just to read your non-argument posts. A comma is not a substitute for a period, nor are they meant to be left alone between two spaces.
Nah it’d be like if you bought one of those rare limited cars where only 35 were ever made in the entire world. So you buy it at an astronomical premium but have pride in it. Then a bunch of randos complain that only 35 people owning the car isn’t inclusive so the car manufacture mass produces the exact same model and sell it for 1/1000th the original cost.
Then someone like you would tell the original owners “You should be HAPPY you got to enjoy it before the others did :)”
You can’t even get it from an unclaimed container at the moment, supposedly. Websites that keep track of player achievements and such haven’t recorded a single player receiving that mount from anywhere in like a year or so. Many people think they stealth removed it from the BMAH completely.
Something tells me you don’t collect cards at all. The fact they’re not always in the packs and are varying in rarity is what drives their value. On top of other factors such as the fact they might be a limited run booster pack, or of a specific edition. You’re more likely to spend more in money fishing for the card buying packs than just buying it outright. That’s why the prices sell for that much, because that’s what people have determined it to be worth to them or they wouldn’t buy it.
If the card I wanted was guaranteed to appear within 2000 packs, I’m spending 6000 for that particular card at 3 dollars a pack even though it was more like 4-5, or I could just buy it for 1500. Yeah it’s a bit egregious of a cost but much cheaper than what I’m looking to potentially spend.
A REALLY brief fad in like 2005 or so was Mighty Beans. These were collectable plastic bean things more or less. The rarest one only had I believe 1000 made in every region. There was absolutely zero guarantee you’d ever see one if you bought them because it potentially just may not have gotten in the inventory stores in your area bought. They later ran an even rarer one where only 200 were ever produced globally. They ran a remaking of it that had much higher amounts produced but it never had the same value as a first series Scarecrow Bean, however if they were both completely indistinguishable from one another, the cost of the first series beans would tank because you could not tell the difference between a rare, or mass produced one.
Good thing those things fell out of style. Some of those beans would not fly by today’s standards, like gender bender bean, yes that was the official name of the bean and it was half woman half man as in stitched down the center two halves of a body.
i think the biggest insult was removing it from bmah completely and sticking it on loot boxes , theres no reason not to bring it back , people already enjoyed it for years now .
people ‘enjoying it for years now’ wasn’t even part of blizzard decision to remove it - they want to keep it rare because they keep on pumping gold into the economy and so everyone would be able to have one sooner or later.
wow token exchange rate at its best point then was around 200k.
200k gold for 20 usd means
100 usd for 1 million gold via wow token
thats 500 usd in original value
so your 3 dollar example is 500 dollars 1 to 1
but they could put it on a vendor for 1 dino bone 2 AH trader coins and a harness and that would be fine too.
but to undermine their own price point because the wow token existed, they knew how much they were listing it for when then set the price at 5 million gold.
that makes little sense. but sure. we could call it a 90% discount at 50 usd. or a 95% discount at the normal in game shop mount pricing of 25 usd.
thing is , bringing it back is a great idea , no matter if its more difficult or more expensive , but having it back gives people something to work for and play the game .
