I think one issue is that for the last six or so years, every final zone, hell, every zone in general, has been strictly tied to progression in some way. We were all funneled there and “needed” to do them to stay current, there was a sense of urgency and a grind involved as well.
ZM reminds me very much of Timeless Isle in terms of design, where it was decent for catchup, had a lot of little secrets and puzzles, a really long rep grind attached, and mostly cosmetic rewards. It’s entirely distinct from any sort of progression, which the playerbase is no longer used to. The only exception is the story part and getting the ability to equip two legendaries.
Personally, I like it, but I don’t feel any urgency to do the content. I think that this is a good idea moving forward in terms of zone design, that said, especially final zone design, but it’s going to take a bit to change player mindset and culture in that regard. Especially when the prior zone, Korthia, was so mandatory in a lot of ways.
I actually like ZM a lot more than I anticipated.
I was really expecting Korthia 2.0 but for some reason the vibe is just different. Maybe because it’s bright and open with a “Lost World” kind of vibe. Idk, but it’s actually something I enjoy
And the new raid is just so good. The art, the vibe, the bosses. All amazing
I enjoy the design a lot, just as a lore junkie I really wish it was another planet we’re visiting and not some super secret “Creator of all things” area we’re in to save the afterlife.
If it were some other planet and we were saving it from the Legion? I’d be all over it. I do appreciate the more Timeless Isle vibes though.
I am levelling an Alt through BC at the moment. Doing a bit of SL content, but enjoying BC a lot more.
I just wish Shadowlands were different. I wish it were the expansion I longed for whilst toughing out the nightmare BfA was. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

I agree the story is just garbage, but what about ZM is convoluted?
I remember those videos from back in the day. I think he also sang the “They killed my main” song. But he did make a lot of good WoW vids back in the day.

that video used to watch it a lot still do from time to time. Same guy but I think he quit.

Nope.
Though instead of hopping on an alt after I’m done on maizou, I just get in bed. ZM feels too… Much? D
For alts.

I want to do ZM more but I haven’t had the chance. Lately I’ve been so busy and tired. I log in, run the mission tables, and then fall asleep.
I am hoping this weekend I will be able play. Maybe fill the ZM bar and do a Normal raid on a few Characters.
I only find time on the weekend. I actually had a lot of fun in ZM last weekend. I am looking forward to this weekend.
I thought maybe when the raid came out, I would find some inner energy to stay up and raid all night after work like in my younger days. But I’m so tired during the week…
Definetly worth getting this from the Jiro after doing there little questline. 150 cyphers each character.
Poorly explained puzzles, cypher system, gearing system, sphere gem things, half the treasures, some of the rares, a droid that doesn’t work, and now I’ve got 14 currencies in my bags for this place that work with a bunch of different systems.
You have to have an addon plus Wowhead 90% of the time to understand what you’re doing or why it’s important/relevant.

Ahhh, I think I still have a day of research going on that one…
Crazy, I have since starting that research filled in several of that 2nd column… even have a gem socketed from that bottom slot of the 2nd column. Head piece I think.
sounds like I’m once again vindicated in not paying much attention to the lore at all. relax and enjoy the game itself
It leaves alot to be desired. The zone seems disjointed and out of sync with too many new systems to learn or acquire.
I log on and think ok what I am missing? Why does it all seem so confusing.

Didn’t think anything could be worse than korthia but ZM is giving it a solid run for its money. Boring dailies and world quests, stale storyline, underwhelming rewards.
Jumped into mythic plus and the seasonal affix is probably the worst in the expansion, temporary buffs that aren’t really exciting. All this was after they “listened to feedback” ? Guess they were too busy dealing with sexual assault cases to put out a good patch, kind of understandable.
@Thallia: you’ll want to hear this
So yesterday I zoned into Zereth Mortis to do my daily chores quota of 3 WQs, dailies, etc. Immediately once I zoned in I noticed a rare icon appear just outside of the town - maybe 80-90 yards from the south entrance. Ran over and tagged it, noticed only 3 other players were there with me… this was during prime-time around 8:20 PM or so
As I ran around the giant circle road making my way over to the WQ I ran by 2 rares “just off the road” that were completely alone - meaning I was literally the only player attacking them. I dismounted and killed them, took like 5-6 minutes though as a solo player in tank spec… and in those 5-6 minutes not a single other player came by to engage/tag the rare (again, during prime-time). The world chat also seemed pretty barren, maybe 1 rare call-out per 4 minutes in there if I had to guess.
Made my way up to the Antros world boss, ported over and opened up the LFG page to check for groups - only 1 group listed. We kill world boss and I drop group. On the way back/porting back over I run by a devourer-style “brute” rare just off to the right of the road… it’s completely alone/no other players have engaged it
I turn in my stuff and leave for Korthia to go wrap up the weekly there.
Zone into Korthia and immediately notice the place is buzzing with player activity, easily 12-15 players “bustling about” just in the quest pickup area. Every rare is swarmed by at least 6-7 players, and there are very frequent rare call-outs in the chat (about 2 per minute). I call out a rare myself and within about 30-45 seconds there are 4-5 other players that come to my side.
Head over to the Maw to wrap up with Mor’geth world boss - notice not 1, not 2, but 3 different world boss groups in the LFG page.
Anyways, just some observations I found interesting for the first week of a new season. I was very surprised that Korthia was still fairly active while ZM seems to have “dried up” so quickly as far as players go. Last week you couldn’t tag a rare in ZM to save your life… and now they’re just “off to the side of the road” untouched/undisturbed

I’ve been thinking on the new zone a great deal. I had very low hopes for it based on the announcements so I wasn’t disappointed. But oddly, running around ZM I found myself getting angry and I still can’t quite put my finger on why.
- I like the easier navigation (circle you can cut through the middle of, maybe).
- I like the puzzles overall, when they work.
- I like that you’ll be able to build pets/mounts.
- I like that there are things to discover.
-I HATE the jumping game. (they are NOT puzzles! There’s nothing to ‘solve’.)
- I HATE having chests that are not reachable unless you’re a warlock, DH or Venthyr. This makes me angriest, I think, having to break my RP mentality to switch covenants just for the meta reason of being able to do something.
- I HATE either getting to a boss just as it dies or having a boss just sit there and no one else to kill it.
- I HATE the lot of time taken to get small percentages for the weekly. The little time I get to play is entirely taken up by trying to do a weekly for ONE toon, preventing me from doing anything else. I’m glad others are finding it easier, but on my server, things are just not going that way.
My guild has mostly stopped logging in now as well, which is a bad sign to me. And worst of all, I am looking at ZM and find myself wondering if the new pets/mounts are worth the effort. I find that odd since I went to the trouble to get some pretty involved things, like Ba’al or the nightmare mount.
It just fails to engage me, it belittles my time and effort and breaks the already weak engagement I have had with my toons with regards to the RP mindset with the world.
It’s that disconnect between creating an area and then making design choices that make it – not unplayable but unpalatable in its entirety rather than making it an integrated whole.
If the the weekly totally resets, I will be down to going back to SL to level other toons and do the bare minimum with ZM and then considering if I should just play elsewhere in WoW or just doing something else entirely. It’s sad.

When I first heard about this I thought to myself “Nah, it’ll be fine”. Then I logged in Wednesday night (couldn’t play Tuesday), went and helped kill a boss and earned a WHOPPING 4 whole percent towards the weekly and went WTF. 4%??? Really? Really? That’s ridiculous.
When they changed the quest from the 3-day to a weekly I figured it would be about the same as the weekly in Korthia where you could finish it in a day if you wanted to without too much pain but that’s ridiculous.
Blizzard, it’s a weekly, so it can only be done once a week! Make it to where the players can finish it in a day if they want, or take seven days if they want, but don’t FORCE people to log in when they don’t want to. Haven’t they learned anything?
Oh who am I kidding? Of course they haven’t.
When it comes to listening… They think they listen, but they don’t.

If I can stay in more than an hour at a time anymore I’m surprised… and if I do it is because I’m piddling around in old content… not current content.
