So did Blizz stop giving game time for a lot of unexpected maintenance?

I cant find an exact date but I remember back in the day when I wasn’t able to log in due to an issues/due to an unexpected maintenance, we would be automatically given a day game time added to our accounts. It made sense as we pay for the access to the server and when it is unavailable randomly/servers need restarted of no fault of our own, we should be compensated in return. We have had so many login issues or Maintenance over the past month that, personally, I have not ben able to play for at least 2 total days worth of my normal play time. (They may still do this but I couldn’t find a page like back in the old days were it says the overall game time history, just payment history)

Cannot say for sure, although it’s been a long time since they last done it.

For a couple hours of maintenance, no?

For days of the game being down, probably. That just hasn’t happened in a long time.

Yeah, a standard maintenance isn’t going to get you any sort of compensation. You’ve pretty much agreed to that much within the ToS, and that’s a standard practice of MMOs.

It generally takes a VERY extreme circumstance for Blizzard to credit everyone for a day of gametime. In fact, you could almost set your clock to it happening during the era of Classic/BC as it seemed to be big patches that generally caused longer than normal downtime for a variety of reasons.

It was very common early in the life of the game as things got ironed out. Not so much later on. I seriously cannot remember the last time it actively happened. I’m sure it has at some point, but I’d be hard pressed to find a point where it did.

Not for maintenance that was already scheduled. But if the servers went down unannounced for a long time, then yes they used to gift time back to the players

All these last several maintenances have been expected though. They told us 1-2 days in advance in game login screen and battle.net app shows notices. So no to them giving us free game time. As we known about game going down every tuesday and when they do ones not on tuesday they still told us 1-2 days ahead.

At its most expensive, you pay .50 cents USD per day of WoW. An unplanned 6 extra hours of maintenance would be worth a whopping 12.5 cents USD lol.

I think the last time they did that was after WoD launched, which had a lot of downtime in the first week or two.

They’ve had two expacs launched since then without giving game time for maintenance shut-downs.

Daily maintenance for a few days after a patch, pre-patch, or expac launch are to be expected. It’s only when there are major issues leading to unplayability beyond those few hours/day that they give extra game time.

I mean at this point in the games life, barely anyone is quitting the game over maintenance downtime

I can mail you a quarter if it helps.

Someone once said they got reimbursed game time because of a documented/verified error unique to his/her computer that required a patch.

I would imagine, therefore, it would be case by case. Scheduled downtime is different.

A long time ago when they had to bring servers down in the middle of the day, during peak hours sure, but rarely ever for maintenance. Even when they did 8 hour maintenance that spanned 5 consecutive days at a time they didn’t give free game time for that. In fact that used to be the norm at one point.

You want 30 cent?

There were a couple days were their login servers were down for hours not scheduled maintenance but just “login issues”

I’ve been playing for the last two months and haven’t had this issue. Only time was when prepatch open up but everyone was loggin on at the same time. This is a known thing to happen on prepatch/launch day. I never been around a prepatch/launch day that went 100% perfect.

If its something bad like the old days of weeks without stable servers they would probably still credit us for said time

actually it was a thing try again

lol, last thread was shut down huh? Maintenance used to last 8 hours easy, every week. People are spoiled by 15 minute rolling restarts. Take a breather and be calm.

I know back in the day because we had days that maintenance would last at least 8 hours+, it’s rare today except maybe when SL first comes out, maybe.

Back in the day maintenance was guaranteed to be 8+ hours every Tuesday. So yeah, if we ended up having extra downtime somewhere else there would be the occasion they’d be generous and gift us a day of game time.

Nowadays the servers are usually only down for maybe 15 minutes, and if we’re going to have big downtime they tell us. Still not good enough I guess. :man_shrugging:
