Yes, depending on the software involved and access necessary. This is a video game. It isn’t the NSA headquarters.
did you bother to actually read the patch notes for yourself, or are you just knee-jerk reacting to someone’s rant about it?
No.
Not going to be forced to get one either way. I don’t care the reasoning for it.
ok so, you didn’t read the patch notes, you don’t actually know what is going on, you’re just being all old-man-yelling-at-clouds because you can.
got it
Android phones are extremely vulnerable. Having 2FA is a good security measure. The devices we use them with are not. Add to that the fact, we have our contacts and geolocation readily available, it’s a disaster waiting to happen. I’ve heard horror stories about people being locked out of their lives because their phone got hijacked or broken.
Stop assuming my gender.
Nasty habit of you regs here that spend countless hours here on the forums and preach to everyone else that actually plays the game.

Hook an authenticator up to your account. You won’t have anything to worry about.
It’s like people are upset because they don’t want increased security for their account.
Read OP. My complaint has nothing to do with security.
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” -Benjamin Franklin
You’re complaining about Blizzard having access to your phone number, so yea, it’s kind of about security… just in the opposite direction for whatever reason.
“Don’t you guys have phones?” - Some guy working for Blizz
Essentially, yes. It’s not about securing a stupid video game account, but compromising my device. If there was a way to secure my account without that compromise, I’m all ears. Oh yeah, they did away with the manual authenticators.
Dude… you can still post a key without an authenticator, you can still join a key without an authenticator
You just can’t make custom text without it. ITS NOT A BIG FORKING DEAL!
It doesn’t lock you out of content. It doesn’t cause wait time to skyrocket. Its not doing anything except limit spammers.
I don’t allow access to my phone from my computer.
I actually have a huge cell phone plan, unlimited hot spot data, unlimited data, free HBO for life, etc, etc.
I don’t want my phone in my computer and I don’t want my computer in my phone for personal reasons.
Why? You can still join groups and make groups.
Does no one actually read?
The Battle.net Authenticator is available for mobile devices and is a simple and convenient way to secure your World of Warcraft account, but if you prefer not to use it for whatever reason, you will still be able to post groups that will have descriptions auto-populated (e.g. based on raid name and difficulty selected in UI dropdowns, or derived from the Mythic Keystone currently in your bags).
Accounts now require an attached Battle.net Authenticator to post custom text when listing a group for Dungeons, Raids, or Rated PvP activities. All players may still search for and join others’ groups.
Thanks!! I was just going to post that exact same thing. I think maybe Niu, was thinking you can’t list or join groups at all without one.
Seriously… The wow population is the most reactionary group I’ve ever seen. It’s like they are allergic to actually reading articles past the headline.
It only impacts a very small part of the game. Honestly, how often are you building a group thru the “custom” section of the group finder? That is the ONLY area being effected by this change.
Welcome to Reddit
I mean . . . Twitter.
I mean . . . GD.
Throughout the 14+ years I have played this game I’ve made a lot of friends, moved servers etc. I have friends scattered everywhere and sometimes I like to play with those friends.
Not being able to list a group that has a random title to it is a game breaker for me. Seriously, there was certainly a better fix for the carry sellers than this. Why not just ban them?
Which makes me think I should add those quotes to my first post in here. Maybe people will read. LOL
