9.1.5 will make authenticators required in order to post custom text for raids, pvp, and m+. This is how all groups are posted now.
It will kill the anemic queues we have now. Low pop servers and alliance have to wait forever for a key. This will decimate us. Even the idea of the need for the authenticator will hinder players from joining or adding their groups to queues. Players will join runs only to find there were unspoken condition they didn’t meet. Both will have to queue all over again. This will frustrate both players looking and players hosting runs. All you’re doing is adding an extra layer of frustration. Stop.
There is no possible way to give us pre-canned items we can post in the chat. You aren’t that smart, Bliz. Take a look at your track record. We need the freedom to post our own details without the hindrance of an authenticator. Having pre-made options for us to post our runs is tantamount to writing a help wanted sign with all emojis. It does not work! Scrap this plan before you kill the game even more.
For some players, using their phone with their games is second nature. For most players, particularly older ones who make up the silent player-base, it’s incredibly invasive. Blizzard doesn’t need to know our cell phone numbers and other meta data. Clearly that’s the intent if it’s to be a deterrent from posting spam. This compulsive need to know every detail about every one of your players is a sickness. See a doctor.
Most players just want to play a video game. It doesn’t need to be all up in our grill. I know devs dream of having us all install the wow app on our phones so they can market to us wherever we go. Be it the app or authenticator, we don’t want either. We want to have the choice in the very least. I play this game when I want, and how I want to. There are things called boundaries.
Lastly, most players are only slightly annoyed by the ads. Use the Premade Group Filter addon, set it to 2 players, and voila, all the ads are gone. There’s no need for these excessive, heavy-handed measures.
You do not know this. Only Blizzard knows this and as far as I know they aren’t saying. You may be right or you may not be but those are feelings not facts.
Many accounts were getting hacked and hackers were using those accounts to post spam in chat and GF. So this was coming by a long shot.
Personally, I just added authenticator yesterday and I find it unnecessary. However, not everyone uses password manager to randomly generate password or use different password for each website, etc…
This isn’t true. Because LFG doesn’t work by server.
How? It has nothing to do with joining. And why do you not have an authenticator? It takes two seconds to set up on your phone for another layer of protection.
I am an older player and I’ve had the authenticator for ages.
I’d also like a source for this “most players.”
I’d also like a source for this “most players,” too.
Let’s recap exactly from the blue post how this whole thing works, shall we?
Accounts now require an attached Battle.net Authenticator to post custom text when listing a group for Dungeons, Raids, or Rated PvP activities. All players may still search for and join others’ groups.
The Battle.net Authenticator is available for mobile devices and is a simple and convenient way to secure your World of Warcraft account, but if you prefer not to use it for whatever reason, you will still be able to post groups that will have descriptions auto-populated (e.g. based on raid name and difficulty selected in UI dropdowns, or derived from the Mythic Keystone currently in your bags).
I am probably going to date myself here but I actually have two of the physical ones from back in the day. Even thou I moved to the phone app, I keep one on my desk. At this point I am wondering which will die first, it or me
Authenticators use two number generators and a single key that links the two when you set them up. You get a number that is synced with the other number generator, type it in and if they match, you’re authenticated.
Has absolutely nothing to do with phone data or your number. Heck, nothing is even transmitted from your phone.
You may or may not be able to use your old one. I know some who can. I think they won’t allow you to use your old authenticator if you’re a guild leader or officer. They will force you to use your phone for those. I expect they will require the phone authenticator for this as well.
I do know that if you don’t have an old authenticator already, they won’t give you one of those.
It still works or at least it did last time I tried it out. I keep checking to see if the battery in it is starting to give out but that damn thing just keeps going.
I like that they’re trying to fix the problem. idk why using an authenticator would be considered such a bad thing. I can’t stand the ads, I just want to find a group and apply.
I also don’t understand how removing the ads is going to make it more difficult to get groups. Just auth and go about your business, with the benefit of no ads and not having to ignore 1 player key groups.
I have one and it still works. But I took it off my account after reading a horror story of someone whose authenticator’s battery died and Blizzard refused to give them access to their account because of it.
But no, I cannot use it for this just like I cannot use it to get rid of the locked bank slots. (Which still peeves me because I paid for that authenticator so should have access to any features involving one.)
They want your phone registered with them so they have access to you. It’s like every other company that is constantly ‘download our app, download our app’.
So without auth you can still create a group with a premade text? Don’t see what’s wrong with that if the premade texts are good enough. If that’s the price to pay to remove advertisement, let’s frigging go.
