So arms fury or prot

Just hit 10 what do you think. Leveling prot. Realistic or not?

Dont touch your talents until 60.

Yes, you can level as Protection. It’s slower at grinding than Arms or Fury, but if you thwack a boar with your Stick of the Bear+1 enough times, it still dies.

I tank a lot of dungeons as arms. Prot isn’t very helpful until higher levels. Don’t make what’s already hard even harder on yourself.

Flat out wrong. Prot is ridiculously good if you plan on actually tanking dungeons while you level. Don’t be drain on your healer’s mana pool just because the forums told you prot sucks.

Use a weapon. Solid advice. Actually have a green 1 handed sword waiting for 11.

Man, that’s some hard mode stuff right there.

I’d love to see someone give that a shot.

I predict lots of deaths.

Thank you. That is what i want to try.

It’s realistic. It’ll be slower and your threat generation will be terrible. You’ll mitigate damage well but you won’t generate much rage due to mitigating damage really well. You are best to go arms or fury until 58+ and then go prot if you wish. Just my opinion and many others here. Always feel free to do your thing though.

Well, you could be A REAL MAN about it and wear only “Of Strength” affixes and viciously barehanded beatdown murlocs until 60.

Arms

Fury is fine too but do not recommend prot. You dont really get anything from it that you need at lower levels, and not being able to effectively quest between dungeons is a no-go for me, and i successfully 2h tanked until Maraudon as Arms. And being arms doesnt mean you have to 2h tank for even a second, just put on a shield. You can go prot and youll do fine in dungeons but like…why make the rest of the game harder for yourself when Arms can do it literally just as well if not better at early levels? Not being able to stance dance for mocking blow (or any other stance specific abilities that require rage, like intercept…) till the mid 40s is awful assuming you rush a deep prot build. If you insist on leveling prot at least get tac mastery/anger management before putting points into prot

I couldnt imagine leveling a warrior and not rushing Tac Mastery immediately, its like playing half the class

Sounds like a challenge.

Again, incorrect. Don’t take advice from people who suck at the spec. This is what you’ll end up with.

It’s not as fast as grinding, but as a tank, you’ll have NO problem finding groups and tanking well

Source? Because when I went prot, I couldn’t hold threat. I couldn’t do damage to get rage and I couldn’t take damage to get rage. I still gear for tanking. I use active mitigation. My healer prefers healing just me, rather than the whole group.

It’s easy to just say “that’s wrong”. It’s harder to be a tank. Trust me, I’m leveling arms in dungeons and so is the other tank in my guild.

Funny how much a lvl 78 warlock has to say about tanking in classic.

Go Arms. Prot will just be a slow drag, Fury, an excercise in frustration (dual wielding without any Hit gear is a bad idea for anyone who isn’t a Rogue).

arms with some prot talents while you level

This is wrong. You do not need prot, and it will make threat generation harder than it already is.

Do not level as prot. Swap to prot around 58.

It really depends on what you want to do, but at least for low level (~40+) dungeons, you won’t have any issues tanking as Arms or Fury, with Arms offering some nice talents for tanking, like Tactical Mastery. Personally, I went Arms. Here’s a little low level Warrior tanking guide I put together, and would love some feedback on.

Solo questing as a warrior isn’t the most fun, but chances are there are going to be times when you’ll want to do it. I’d say go Arms until you start to notice difficulty tanking, likely high 40s, low 50s, and by that time, you’ll know if you want to mix it up by questing/grinding or just doing dungeons.
