So about Gilneas

Aside from the gameplay reason the lore reason is she needed the player character alive so that they could deliver the Heart of Azeroth to N’zoth’s prison.

Creepy fish being introduced during the Azshara campaign was some great use of imagery and storytelling. Really happy they kept with it. I liked Azshara as a villain. Not quite sure why we are not seeing parallels between the spiders and Azshara’s reign.

I say it often here, but man Blizzard screwed up Gilneas so bad. As someone else commented earlier in the thread, the big issue is there are no pro-worgen devs on the team I truly believe that. Ever since the worgen were added to the game they have gotten the short end of the stick.

The whole starting zone is about realizing that the beast is now part of you, that you will always have the curse and you just have to learn to live with it and use it to your advantage. Being a worgen is part of Gilnean life now.

Only for us to get to BfA and the heritage quest is like, “LOL forget all that, actually being a worgen is just bad and the curse doesn’t define your people and it will go away with time.” Love that Blizzard! Cause when I picked worgen I did so to just be british humans…

Then come DF and we finally, FINALLY, get Gilneas back. Only for it to be so lackluster… The quest was way more about showing how the Forsaken aren’t bad people than it was about the Gilneans getting their home back, you cannot convince me otherwise. This is why they made the enemy the Scarlets despite Gilneas having no prior engagements with the Scarlets.

Seriously, as someone said earlier, the Gilneas Reclaimation would have been so much better if Gilneas was taken over by a Scourge raised Godfrey. His whole goal for getting Genn to build the wall was to have an uprising happen so he could potentially take the crown, so having Godfrey come back and take over Gilneas to finally have his kingdom of undead would have been really cool. AND, it would have tied in with the worgen starting zone where he was an antagonist to the player and worgen in general so it would have been way more personal.

Alas, we did not get that because:

  1. I don’t believe any of the devs are worgen players/ enjoy worgen lore otherwise this would have been a no brainer imo.

  2. This was more about the Forsaken being good than it was the worgen getting their home back.

I do agree they did rush the Gilneas retaking.

Almost felt like an after thought that had to happen before next big thing happens. The Gilneas starting zone is by far my most loved zone simply for the story telling.

Wish they had connected the starting zone story to the retaking of Gilneas. Instead of……horde undead players being “helpful”. lol! As a demon hunter main, I kept thinking, if only I had my Legion space ship to knock down this wall.

Seriously seriously hoping they have hired loremasters to connect all the threads.

No more “surprise! It was the Robot all along”. (Looks at jailer….such high potential).

Eh, even in the intro, you basically overcome all the issues of the curse with a potion and it only meaningfully serves as a buff.

Worgen can be happy they got any attention. Tauren never mattered even as side plot.

This is my hope somewhat… they said they wanted the retaking of Gilneas to be something we actually got to experience. We got that, but it was rushed as hell…

I’m wondering if they wanted to get Gilneas reclaimed because they plan to update it officially in Midnight to be the Alliance hub.

I’m kind of hoping Silverpine just becomes a front were the Halloween Axis is just mauling the Arathi;
