Small things WoW should take from WildStar

Housing - Obviously. WS had the best housing but I don’t want to get into that much here. I want to focus on other things WS got right that I’d like to see in WoW. And housing isn’t a “small thing” anyway.

Quest item use button - Press this one button and you use whatever quest item is relevant for the situation. For example, in Zereth Mortis there’s a quest to scan balls with a ball scanner and there’s one to reveal dreadlords with a dreadlord revealer. Even if you had both in your quest log you’d just hit G and the game would use the right item for your location or target. (I think it was G but obviously players could change it).

Costumes - You’d get several costume slots and you could freely change between them anywhere at any time. WoW could do something similar by giving us costume slots to mog. It would still cost gold to mog these other costume slots but then we could switch between them anywhere at any time.

Vacuum loot button - This one is a little tricky since it does something that’s a big perk of Engineering, and adding it for everyone standard would take that away. But it might be worth it. I dunno. Anyway, press a button and loot everything in range.

Dyes - I know this isn’t an easy add, but I think players would understand if armor dyes only worked on gear added after adding dyes. So, the sooner adding dyes is added the more gear could be dyed in the long run. Basically, this is a the sooner the better feature

Mount modification - In WildStar all mounts had a front, back, right, and left attachment point for mount modifying addons. They ranged from normal stuff like what looked like storage containers or saddlebags to stuff that could turn your mount into a noodle delivery vehicle.
(Here’s a mount with various things attached:)

Of course, like dyes, it would make sense that older mounts wouldn’t work this way since it would require going back and reworking all of them, and that’s just nuts. However, the sooner they make something like this for new mounts the more fun we can have in the long run.

Also, in WoW I could see the attachment point number and location varying from mount to mount. I don’t know that horses really need an attachment point on their heads, for example. Maybe WoW mounts could just have left, right, and maybe back points.

OmniBits - A rare-ish currency that could drop from just about any game activity and could be used to buy items off the game shop. I realize we can already use gold to buy items off the shop in a roundabout way. This could be a second little bonus.

This is more of a runner up thing to add. It doesn’t add much and it might be too confusing to have this and the ability to buy stuff with gold, and I’d rather keep the gold option. It’s just, OmniBits always felt good to get and it was fun saving them up and turning them in for cosmetic stuff.

It isn’t about if it is easy to add or not. It changes their convoluted/dumb reward system.

The funny thing is I thought mount equipment was actually going to be the start of major mount customization like Wildstar, and they gave up on it basically the moment it was introduced.

Costumes and dyes, those are the other big ones I fully endorse. I don’t understand how this game has been around for nearly 20 years with scribes having the ability to make dyes and it hasn’t been taken that extra step to allow for color changing gear. Seems like a no-brainer.

Blizzard has said it would take multiple expansions to deliver it with Blizzard level polish.

Uhh… so then why is it listed here?

Just give me that grinder mount, thanks

WoW uses handpainted textures. It’s simply not gonna happen with this engine.

I was secretly hoping Vulpera would have the guinea pig ball mount that Chua had lol

Nah, it was always just a smokescreen for nerfing the water strider. It’s why they haven’t touched it since. I bet at some point they’ll take mount equipment out and leave the strider nerfed.

Because if I made a list of things I want in WoW from WildStar and didn’t mention housing, even with “small things” in the title people would be like ‘why not housing? WS had the best housing.’ Just coving my bases.

“Small things WoW should take from Wildstar”

How about nothing, since that game crashed and burned rather quickly.

How about taking a game that lasted longer to take points away from?

That would mean they wouldn’t be able to get away with having the exact same gear model for different raid difficulties and PvP ranks. As much as I want to be able to dye my equipment, I don’t think Blizzard would be willing to give that up.

If the textures are painted in grayscale then different colors can be added. I mean, it’s how a lot of gear in the game has recolors. It’s also how a couple of mounts from Mechagon work. But yeah, I do get WoW wasn’t built for dyes so it would take a fair bit of effort to make it work, and it would only work for new gear specifically designed for a dye system. Still I think it might be worth it.

Like what, Tetris? There’s not many games that have lasted as long as WoW so I guess WoW should just borrow from itself and stop changing all together. Kinda shortsighted to not use a good idea just because it came from a game that didn’t last. And WoW has already borrowed many things from WildStar and other games that are no longer around.

I didn’t say “as long as WoW”. I said a game that last longer than Wildstar did.

There are plenty that lasted a few years, even a decade before shutting down. Guild Wars 1 is still running and came out before WoW.

FWIW, do you think this would be acceptable? Or would you expect the average player to have all armor be dye-able, instead of just a select few?

(Imagine if transmog didn’t retroactively award you the appearances from quests you already completed. Same issue.)

Of which there are many, agreed.

What’s funny is when people point to housing from a newer game like Wildstar when everything they did had been done long before that. By games that lasted way longer than Wildstar.

My experience with dyed armor in other games is that everyone just goes monochrome and looks like Darth Vader, an Imperial Stormtrooper, or something from My Little Pony.

Well, they added some dyable mounts in Mechagon and I didn’t see a huge outrage about older mounts not being dyable. I think most players get that old gear isn’t designed to be dyed the same way old mounts aren’t designed to be dyed.

Its not about reward system. Blizz artist to paint the Texture by hand so unlike other game where texture are placeholder where you can modifie its color easily WoW isnt really like that.
