Small things WoW should take from WildStar

Are the players having fun doing it?

Are the players having fun watching a bunch of people around them look like Garanimals? No.

Sure. Star Wars: Galaxies had housing way back in the early 2000s and, in my opinion, had one of the best housing models ever. At long as you didn’t place a house on a rock or a tree (or another house, obviously), you could place it almost anywhere. Players also created the houses by “mining” resources that had different qualities and using those in their crafting.

I LOVED the crafting system in early SW: G and was gut-punched when the later update basically destroyed that.

I belonged to a guild in SWG called Pax Imperium that was formed during beta with the objective of having the first player-made city in the game. We had a plan and the moment the servers were working (since the game didn’t work the first day and the engineers ultimately just went home to try again on Day 2, but that’s another tale…) we had tons of people out gathering mats and feeding them to the designated architect who started cranking out resource harvesters that were planted at designated spots to funnel more mats into the plan.

Great stuff.

It was said at the time that SWG was a crafting system in search of an actual game.

So, another case of “People are having fun in a way I don’t like and should be stopped”. Got it.

we need a WILDSTAR CLASSIC!!!

No, more like “I want dye but nobody else should have it because they look stupid.”

There’s addons for this, I use https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/kaliels-tracker which has it built in but that also changes the objectives tracker.

There’s also https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/extraquestbutton which is just that button.

meh, I don’t think wow should take anything from wildstar

wow already had the winning forumula and then they promoted a new Ion team of stewards who reinvented a ton of systems and catapulted player retention to the lowest numbers ever seen by wow and by a lot of other games

I think I remember your guild, actually.

We did the same thing! We were on Tatooine kinda right in the middle of the map.

It seriously was. When they added the ships in the first expansion I just got online and made ship weapons. I had a bunch of people messaging me for stuff all the time.

I literally spent most of my time searching for the best spots for harvesting resources just for weapons.

And Wildstar stole that from City Of Heroes.

Well, they were both NCSoft so that was more of a “share” than a “steal”.

WoW already has costumes, though. Ensembles.

Well, City of Heroes was created by Cryptic who later sold it to NCSoft. Wildstar was created later so it still took the idea from CoH.

Ironic that CoH was sunsetted while still turning a profit for Aion which then flopped hard.

I know, I was heartbroken when they shut that down. I loved CoH/CoV and I lost all of my pictures of my heroes when my old hard drive crashed and burned.

I thought the dyes were fine in DAOC.

:man_shrugging:

You mean you don’t like the extremely shallow and boring system we got just because people would use the water strider to, insert gasp, cross water!

Surprised they have removed it yet

You know about City Of Heroes Homecoming right? I haven’t been able to play it because for some odd reason i lag too bad but i can still play with the character creator.

Yeah, I have it downloaded, I just haven’t had time to look at it. My job keeps me pretty busy and my remaining game time is limited to just WoW right now so I can keep us as best I can for raiding.

Ah… the DAOC devs were smart and knew their audience.

Black dye cost a fortune from the vendor, far more than any other dye color. And of course it was one-time-use only and you needed a bottle for each armor slot.

So sure, you could look like Darth Vader… but it’d cost you.
