SL requiring SSD?

Honestly, if you can play BfA without everything at the absolute minimum, you’ll likely be fine. You may have to drop the more intense settings down a notch but it’ll be playable outside of the most stressful content (I’d probably avoid 40v40 BGs).

Remember that the minimum required specs are never the actual minimum. It’s the line that they decided that every system that meets it will be able to run the game decently. Below that is basically the area where if CS is stumped on an issue they can blame it on your system and close the ticket without fixing anything.

That makes sense. I’ll try it out. I still plan on buying a new PC if I can swing it next year but I’m not looking forward to moving 7 years worth of stuff and reinstalling everything either!

Right now I am able to play above the minimum, I just don’t run any AA or high settings and keep view distance turned way down.

In the meantime I’ll be really hoping I can still play. I got burned by Fallout 4 (pre-purchased and then wasn’t able to run it) when it came out so I am a bit afraid when it comes to stuff like this.

Does it matter if you get less than 1 TB in an SSD?

Not really, you can run several smaller ones. You just want to make sure the you get one that will fit the applications you use the most. Myself I run three 500 gb ones, I bought them one at a time until I replaced the two HHDs I had and a third one just so I would have room to expand.

Well RIP my 1070, lol. I’m not expecting to get a 3080 before the end of the year given the usual stock problems that come with the launch of a new nvidia line.

Honestly, I was tossing up between a launch 3080 and a 2080TI. I mean, I have a GTX1080 but its nice to have new stuff >.>

I could be wrong, but I believe most modern laptops are equipped w/ ssd as opposed to the traditional platter drive.

Not really. You can get a 500 gig one for less than $100 and fit wow w/o difficulty.

Currently I have my OS on a 125 gig ssd and wow as well as a few other games on a 500 gig ssd and still have plenty of space.

Loading factorio and then loading a megafactory with about 200 mods active

HDD: 15 minutes
SSD: 90 seconds

Worst case, SSHD (SSD+HDD hybrid) more or less the SSD handles the common data/most accessed date but there is still the storage of the HDD.

Only bad thing about a SSD is it has a half life or less of a HDD. An HDD may last for years but SSD has a limit once reach its toast. I dont have any spare cash for SSD my brother gave me his old gaming laptop from a few years ago its the only reason I started playing wow again. Also only 1 usb works on it for the mouse so I guess this the end for me unless it still let me play without one.

What im wondering is is anybody in beta able to even run Shadowlands on a HDD?

settra does not serve!

it depends on the cell type. SLC will likely outlast a mechanical HDD by a pretty large margin. However if its the QLC then it wont last more than 3-5 years.

Kind of hijacking this post but if I have windows on a SSD but my games stored a separate HDD, what does wow run on? The SSD or HDD?

The HDD, but your operating system being on the SSD does make the CPU as a whole run faster.

I’m in the same boat with a 500 gig SSD, and 1 TB HDD in my CPU. However, I took the care of putting WoW on the SSD purely because WoW is my primary game. SSD’s function in a sense that as they fill up, because it’s basically instantaneous flash drives, they become slower. The closer you come to reaching full capacity, the slower the SSD becomes.

So if you put Windows, and just WoW on an SSD, so long as you’re still at, or under half capacity, you won’t be impacted, and WoW will run extremely quickly.

Might try that, I have a computer that is a mix of scrap parts from my work. There were some extra terabyte HDDs so figured use them for game space

Might upgrade them, luckily windows is already on a HHD do I won’t have to mess with a image backup

Is anybody able to run wow in shadowlands beta on a hdd im looking around for that info?

I’ll put it this way.

Can you run WoW on an HDD? Yes. I was doing it up until recently when I got a new PC back in May. Will you be able to do so for SL? Very likely.

However. Will it be good? Probably not. As I say above, certain maps and certain areas are becoming very cluttered with models, textures, etc. The SSD is meant to make it so loading times and things like running the game are smoother and quicker. Running it on an HDD will, as I said earlier, be doable but also be problematic involving certain things. A load time for Hook Point in the current game is incredibly long on an HDD, so much so that people can’t load in before the gate opens which means no adjusting talents and no information involving who you’re fighting. No preparation time. An SSD makes it almost instant.

i am guessing if you can run wow on ptr, you are more than likely able to run SL when it is live?
