gaming requires an SSD tbh.
its 2020 you shouldnt be using spinning metal disks to store data anymore
Pretty sure not for preorder. I had to buy some upgrades and would have ordered it. Oh well, been meaning to het one anyway.
Ah thank you. I’d just need to figure out what slots on the motherboard go where. There are just so many.
Not required, recommended.
It makes sense, SSDs are just faster, which will help the game better than an HDD.
You should always steer clear of Seagate anything. I’ve had more of those drives die on me than any other brand. I’ll never buy another one from them.
I dont think it is going to be game-breaking for you. If it performs at a level that you are satisfied with then great. And if not it likely will be a minor annoyance rather than an emergency.
Tbh generals wouldn’t need a remaster. It actually still looks pretty good considering it what? Close to 20 years old now?
mostly about the resolution and aspect ratio, it looks awful in anything but 4:3
A decent SSD (especially M.2 form factor) will dramatically improve your wow experience.
Thank you kindly for your replies. All assistance is appreciated.
Was probably gonna get an SSD soon anyway, strange requirement tho
A Samsung (MZ-V7E500BW) 970 EVO SSD 500GB is $50 on Amazon. You can find a PCI-e adaptor for $10. For $60 and your time it’s very much worth doing.
Also, becareful of those DRAMless SSDs. They can get really annoying when it stutters. Usually happens when load is heavier.
You can find a list of SSDs here:
As a player since 2008 this is really disappointing to me if true and kind of heartbreaking. One of my favorite things about WoW has been that it will run on older computers. My computer is from 2013 and I can still play in BFA without too much difficulty, but I don’t have an SSD.
Being partially disabled (and on a reduced income thanks to you-know-what) I do not have the money to buy a new computer or upgrade mine just to play WoW. My money goes to keeping the lights on and the house payment current while trying to fix the stuff that’s always breaking in an old house, and paying off medical bills/surgery costs while trying to save a bit for future medical expenses.
The only other game I play is ESO which runs fine still and I can play the latest content all night long with my old pc.
I have a lot of friends in WoW and this is really disappointing to me that I won’t be able to adventure with them through Shadowlands. At least I can still hang out with them on Discord. They help me deal with some of the issues I face and keep me sane and alive.
Even if it turns out that an SSD is not required I won’t be able to play because I can’t meet the minimum graphics requirement either.
Hopefully Blizzard can make a “lite” version or something which will run on old PC’s. Otherwise it’s no more WoW for me until tax refund next year if I get lucky.
Not required but its better you do if you want to save time
An SSD will allow for faster loading of Zones, and Characters in those zones. Giving the rest of your components time to do other things.
Your computer is only as fast as its slowest component.
I couldn’t imagine playing wow on an old style HDD anymore, the load times would be horrendous I would think. I remember people complaining about Legion Dalaran load times and that was a few years ago lol
Playing on my 7 year old 1 TB hard disk, it takes me about 15-20 seconds to load into Boralus when starting WoW fresh (and once I’m loaded in, subsequent returns to Boralus via hearthstone take less than 10 seconds.) I upgraded from 8GB to 16GB a couple of months ago which helped a lot.
I have a SSD similar to the one I mentioned earlier that is around $50. I really don’t have load times.
