SL requiring SSD?

Get a SSD and your life will be changed forever

You can’t go wrong with getting a SSD drive for your WoW game…portal loading use to take 15-30 secs to load the screen up using HHD drive…now I Have WoW on SSD, drive portal loading is like 4 secs now…its amazing…and SSD drives are cheap now…

Not really bonkers… Thunderbolt is PCI-e in effect. As such it would easily outclass.

Not seeing the DxDiag… but I can say that in my experience this can be complicated. I have an MSI RTX 2070 Super OC Ventus1 that can draw 235w… which is more than the 225w allowed for a card with a 6 pin and an 8pin connector. This is technically allowed because the card can draw 75w from the PCI-e slot… but the motherboard can’t really supply that in my case.

1There are other serious issues with the design of this card. To anyone reading this: don’t buy this card and check reviews on power delivery on anything you do buy. This card is trying to power a 235w power limit card on 6x 55A DrMOS power stages… at 1v… so 39A per powerstage. That’s ~71% of rated current which is well above the 60% of rating limit that power circuitry manufacturers recommend (and is economical for efficiency reasons). Furthermore the 235w power limit may cause OCP faults in some systems that are unable to supply that much power via the PCI-e power connector (it’s beyond spec).

Can I run Wow Shadowlands from an external SSD (USB) drive?

I do have a 200GB+ ssd but i have to get rid of alot of stuff in it before i can put wow in it i mean is it worth going tru all that hell just for slight loadtimes or is there something else to it as well?

Although I am, and will always be a Empire and Sigmar man, I will always love Settra for the reason when Nagash came back during the end times and Nagash asked Settra to bow and serve he told him straight to his face “No” and when Nagash turned his entire army against him and tried turning Settra, his willpower was so strong even Nagash could not turn him. Absolute beast.

Maybe not required. You could get up and make a sandwich while your game loads.

I am, it runs fine. To me, load times are just a tad longer between instances about 25 or so seconds. Before I was at 15-20 seconds. My CPU is a 4th gen i5, my computer is running 32 gigs of ram, and my video card is a GT 1030. My frame rates are about 45-50fps.

If that is running well with yours, my Mac should be fine. I have a 2020 27" with a 2TB HD.

You’ll be fine. :+1:

Also, when an HDD dies it takes all the data with it without expensive recovery done to it. SSDs just lose the ability to write data when they are at the end of their life, you can still read off of it with no problem.

Once I switched over from my HD to Ssd my wow loading screens went from ridiculously long to ridiculously quick. Much worth the investment.

How would a skylake cpu with a gtx 980 ti run in shadowlands?while still useing a HDD.

Hopefully HP made it easy to change out your HD on that laptop. If you do a search on Youtube with your model number, I’m sure there will be several videos on how to swap out hard drives.

You can get software that will migrate all your data onto the new HD. If you want to start over fresh, make sure to download your version of Windows onto a USB drive in a bootable format. I’m sure there are plenty of Youtube videos about that too.

All that being said, could someone recommend an EXTERNAL from amazon, I have a good laptop but will need a USB one. Thanks, like me there’s people that have little knowledge of these things and links and recommendations will always be welcomed. Again, looking for an external from amazon. Appreciate it

I found this one:

SAMSUNG T7 Portable SSD 500GB - Up to 1050MB/s - USB 3.2 External Solid State Drive, Gray (MU-PC500T/AM)

I am thinking of getting this one, in the event my HDD runs too slow.

that looks nice and 500 seems great for my needs. WHat’s this USB stuff though? I looked in my device manager and i have a 3.0 and one thing with 3.1 so…thanks for any help =P

Ran the PTR for the first time last night on my laptop. Don’t have an SSD on my laptop(can’t install one ether due to warranty) and outside of loading screens taking an extra 5 to 10 seconds to load, the game ran perfectly fine so hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy Shadowlands till I can get a new laptop that has an SSD in 2-3 years.

I plan on replacing mine early October. I found a decent looking gaming laptop for 1200 on amazon. So looking forward to being ready for shadowlands!

and yea I’m sure a SSD will be so much smoother, can’t wait

Damn it, i am at 1080 ti now. Crap, im on the low end again.
