I’m advocating for an MMORPG. The difference being, a healthy thriving community engaged in the open world. A fully cohesive, flushed out environment for players to explore and engaging content released as expansions.
Live service are smaller in scale, usually hub based with instanced content for smaller player groups. Usually with battle passes or loot treadmills with micro expansions that add barely there content.
Retail is not massive or a roleplaying game anymore. It’s smaller in scale, relies on instanced content and it’s open world is an empty mess.
Ony in 'nilla
Gruul and Mag in BC.
Two Sanctums and Malygos in WotLK (plus VoA plus remaster of Onyxia).
Tot4W in Cata (plus Baradin Hold).
Arguably Terrace in MoP, though that was 4 bosses, there was almost no trash, felt very much in a similar vein).
It wasn’t 'til Legion they really stopped doing them
