Words cannot express how awful, terribly designed and stressful this freaking dungeon is.
Just off the top of my head, not going into every reason it’s terrible –
Literally just about every mob in the entire dungeon has some sort of INCREDIBLY annoying mechanic for ranged. Either they pull you in, or they put swirlies everywhere and you cannot cast for more 0.2 seconds before having to move again. EVERY single mob pack has something like this.
The agro range of the first boss is HUGE, resulting in an accidental pull almost every single time which leads to arguing with pugs about who accidentally pulled it.
The first boss can start chasing when there’s no bombs out to stun him with.
The first boss only targets ranged DPS for the chase, so if you’re the only ranged in the group (like I was last night), then you are CONSTANTLY running away from him and cannot dps. Last night I was flamed, “Shaman, what is that dmg?” and then KICKED from the group, because I had almost no opportunity to actually dps the boss besides spiritwalker’s grace which has a cooldown. The dude, a warrior, probably isn’t even aware of the kiting I was being forced to do.
The giant boss with the water waves: Apparently the water near the pole, that you stand next to to dodge the waves, is too shallow so because my character is a goblin he started SWIMMING in it, which drastically lowered my travel speed, which lead to me getting hit by the water wave and dying. Lol.
The last boss arena is so bad I can’t even … Everything about it is wrong. I have done the dungeon maybe 5 times and on 3 of those times my character was knocked UNDER the deck of the boat (third platform) by one of the unavaoidable knockbacks. Under the boat. UNDER THE BOAT. I couldn’t get out and died.
Whatever. This dungeon alone would be enough justification for someone to unsubscribe. I’d totally understand that.
Certainly seems like it. BfA was definitely, I think at least, the height of Blizzard’s superiority complex and obvious resentment towards their players.
I haven’t tried mythic yet, but doing that dungeon (especially the first boss) on heroic on my elemental shaman was miserable. I kept getting charged, knocked back, or otherwise pummeled without being able to do much more than throw out Flame Shock and pray for a proc of instant Lava Burst.
I don’t mind it. Do the sharpshooter circles still damage mobs?
First boss definitely has some problems though. He chased me (tank) for almost half the fight with zero bombs spawning and I just kept getting knocked around.
The explanation from the OP is spot on. It has nothing to do with skill, but everything to do with how badly it as been adjusted for current content levels.
I ran this dungeon at level when BFA was up. I play ranged classes and it seemed to me that I was the ping pong ball. It appears however, that Bliz has “tweaked” this one beyond what I experienced when it was active in BFA. They actually made it into a nightmare worse than can be imagined.
But thanks for the OP’s info, I’ll be staying out of it this season. I have no desire to go through that one any time ever.
Dude yes!!! What the hell is wrong with Blizz making the first boss only focus on ranged DPS. It’s either us or the healer.
I’ve been noticing a lot of dungeon grifieng ranged DPS lately. Seems to be way harder to dps as a caster than dps as a melee, where everything is instant and requires little to no brain to pull damage.
