I’m the type of WoW Player that wishes EVERYTHING was playable. Every Race, every Class. I would genuinely play a Harpy Bard.
But let’s face it: New Classes constitute an eternal increase on WoW’s development costs. Every class needs to be balanced, they need spell animations, they need redesigns from time to time, they will even need Class Specific armor now that it’s confirmed that Class Sets will be returning in Shadowlands.
And there are only so many “eternal increases on development costs” that WoW can take.
That’s why they moved out of making permanent new features in Cata to start with the “Expansion Features” in MoP, starting with MoP Scenarios and the MoP Farm.
So when I see people asking for Necromancers, Bards and even Tinkers, my natural reaction is “yes I want everything”.
And yet the lack of a new Class in BfA despite the fact that they basically created like 10 specs worth of Necromancer spell effects for Shadowlands makes me think that maybe Blizzard hit an effective “class limit” as far as Development resources are concerned.
So here’s my question: Do you think WoW can handle having more Classes? Do you think WoW needs more Classes to shake things up? Is there anything Blizzard can do to give us the excitement of a new Class without having to actually add a new Class?
Switch to a Banjo people wear steel finger picks to play those so claws would work great! Also rather than new classes my suggestion was to let Incriptionist craft lots of glyphs to let us change the look of our spells and abilities to match say Covenant themes. New look to classes with out having to rebalance.
yes, i think there should be more classes, but EXTREMELY limited to race. how just about every race has a class that another race can use. i think each race should have 1 very specific class that only that race can use. an example would be only human could be a bard. (with a horde equivalent orc and an orcish type bard?)
I feel like they’ve hit the limit on classes and balance as they seem to struggle with balancing what they have already.
Rather than new classes, focus on new types of permanent content, like player/guild housing that will be around and relevant for more than just an expansion.
It’s never a matter of can but ought, and I am always in favor of new classes granted they don’t gut the kit of others for lack of design originality on the developer’s behalf. So long as the game releases new and, relatively to certain poorly received features prior, polished content, though, I think it could survive without.
One of the things I believe might recall the excitement of the prospect would be class skins, but those are ultimately more flash than substance and wouldn’t have, I think, the lasting impact of having an entirely or mostly new class to play with and learn. New races are another, and more lasting with the potential for interactions between class abilities and racials, and a much deeper pool whence to draw for content without the prior mentioned risks of gutting other classes. There are very likely other things I simply lack the foresight to pen at present that would be tantamount to a new class in propagating excitement.
People say, “instead of new classes, fix the ones we already got!”
Well, they may try to do that. And they may please half the population but they’ll still leave the other half dissatisfied with whatever changes they make. So basically I mean that they’ll just screw it up anyway.
Even if a new class comes out broken/OP, and even if people complain about it, at least its new content for everyone to try out.
At the moment we have healing, tanking and DPS. Maybe we don’t need another class. Maybe we need another role? As mentioned above something like a Bard whose role is purely support. The beep specific buffs rolling on specific people, doing CC, reactive mitigation etc. etc. Healing, Tanking, DPS, Support. That would be cool.
This is a really great point. A lot of people talk about new classes as if they’ll just keep adding them forever. When you look at their current design perspectives (Not adding new talents/abilities every expansion, borrowed power, expansion specific features that don’t get carried forward) to me it makes sense that there will be a point where we will never get a new class.
Personally, I think (maybe naively) we have one more class to look forward to. I don’t yet know what that class will be, but I’m really confident that will be the final class added to the game. But the truth is there is a real possibility we’ve already reached the end.
IMO whatever class is added it will have a tank spec. We are never getting a class with 3 dps specs added to this game. That I’m sure of.
