Should only top tier PvP players get weapons?

Lets think about this for a second. In retail 1.8k is roughly 90th percentile give or take.
This means that ~90% of players will never hit 1.8k let a lone 2k

Is it fair that you have to be top 1-5% in your region in PvP to get a weapon?

Take this concept and apply it to PvE, see how dumb it sounds.
Do you only get your prince weapon if you parse a 97 (top 3%)
Do you only get your t4 shoulders if you parse a 99 (top 1%)

S1-2 had no rating requirements and should have never been changed. But even if they are, the weapons used to require 1800-1850 (can’t recall) which is hard, but obtainable for a good amount of players. Making them require 2050 is unrealistic for north of 95% of the playerbase.

What about “Wellfare epics, people will just run in and lose 10 games a week”
The rating starts at 0 now, that wont happen. Also your weekly points are calculated based off your team rating, meaning if you are “afking” or hardly trying it will take over a month to get your weapon.

Why is doing Kara challenging enough to reward weapons in s1, but if you pvp, you have to be a top contender in your region?

TLDR: no.

Should be challenging, not a top 10% thing. In TBC too many specs have BiS PvE weapons from arena. It would be different if there were better PvE itemization.

It takes you over a month to get your weapon if you are sustaining 2050+ rating sir.

If you are afking games and not ranking, it takes anywhere from 3-6 months.

nah I believe if you can pay Blizzard 20 dollers for an pvp weapon they should have an in game credit card store to purchase weapons. for those that can’t play the game alot.

I don’t recall exact costs from back then. But I do know if you were not high rated, getting a weapon, especially a 2h took quite a few weeks (or months)

And all this time you are delaying your other upgrades, lets not forget.

Let’s say you grinded up from 0 to 800 rating and just started AFKing games each week.

This is 144 for 2v2 and 190 for 5v5

So even 5v5 is going to take you 19 weeks to get your 2 hander or bow/xbow/gun.

Ever wanted to know what happened if you just afk’d losses at 200 rating?
You get 58 points, which is 64 weeks…more than a year.

Season 1 and 2 shouldn’t require any rating to obtain gear as that’s how it was in the original game. But now that we’re in the realm of “some changes”, arguing for the sake of authenticity doesn’t get you anywhere.

To back up OP, here are SL S1 stats currently

https://luduslabs.org/sotl

Just eyeballing this, 2050 is about the 98.5 percentile. Meaning if you’re someone defending rating requirements on S1 weapons, and you’re reading this post, you will most likely never see a PvP weapon for yourself.

As for costs, an ‘afk for 10 losses’ in 2s at 1500 earned you about 260 arena points. A 2H weapon cost 3750 arena points.

Here’s a chart of 2.2 arena point calculations. I don’t know if this changes now that teams aren’t starting at 1500.

https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Arena_point

The sheer time it takes the ‘afk for 10 losses’ crowd to get even a weapon is a ‘tax’ enough. We’re almost at season 2 by the time they get their weapons, assuming 20 week seasons.

The S1 gear should not have ratings.

In all of WOW aside from a measley 2 seasons you needed a rating requirement to get weapons and shoulders.

Literally every season aside from season 1 and season 2 of tbc required a rating.

I dont see the issue?

I’ve been waiting for this post all day and night. I almost stole the idea and made my own thread stating this.

There’s literally no point to doing this. It is ONLY detrimental. There is EXACTLY ZERO BENEFIT. It makes NO SENSE.

So every season aside from season 1 and season 2, which is half the number of BC’s total seasons? Lol

Where are your goal posts? Are we talking about BC or all of WoW? Because there have been entire expansions with no rating on gear.

What exapnsions??

Literally all of wow had a rating requirement for weapons and shoulders.

If you read my post I said all of wow…

MoP had seasons that didn’t require any rating whatsoever.

WoD was the same way. No rating requirements, just needed to earn conquest points

You also ‘threw out’ Seasons 1 and 2 of BC, which had no rating requirement. BC had 4 total seasons, so you just threw out half of BC’s PvP seasons. You’re proving my point for me.

No season of arena ever required rating for entry level gear. Every subsequent season had its previous season gear discounted, reduced or relegated to honor.

This is going to be the first time in WoW history that the only PvP gear available from arena will have rating requirements.

I listed the 2 seasons that didn’t have it…

Reading is hard…

This is going to be the first time in wow history classic tbc is out.

I mean we could go on?

You are chalking it up as being insignificant, is my point.

“Literally” every season of BC aside from 1 & 2 had rating. So that’s S3 and S4. That’s “literally” half of BC’s arena seasons had no rating requirement on gear.

Literally EVERY SEASON aside from season 1 and season 2 of Tbc.
