I left Classic to play other games, such as Total War Warhammer 2, Vermintide 2, and even retail for a while with my guild. Yet I always swore I’d pick back up the game in TBC. But after returning this week, I found my realm was completely void of any life. Everyone had moved to a different server or were already max level.
The old world is dead and I spent a few hours doing quests and seen not a soul, I couldn’t do any dungeons, group content, or anything. It felt like retail questing, a single player game that was almost stabbing me in the sides saying, “Buy a boost, buy a boost, buy a boost. Why waste your time when you could buy a boost!”
I feel like even if I put in the effort to reach max level, by the time I do, everyone will have already moved on to something bigger, leaving me further and further behind. And that when I do finally reach max level, I’ll be so far behind that WoTLK will be announced and all the content I was looking forward to doing will be null and void.
I refuse to give Blizzard money for a boost or server transfer, even if it kills all my interest in playing. So really, why should I keep playing?
First, what realm are you on? They offered free transfers for some realms a while back. Maybe yours is one of them.
As for why you should keep playing? It sounds like you shouldn’t. If you don’t want to pay for a transfer or boost, and you don’t want to relevel, the best thing to do is walk away.
Yeah, Bloodsaid is certainly on the lower end of population. If you’re not into RP, it might be worth it to reroll on a bigger server. Maybe even a PvP server. Right now, Benediction has about 23k players, and 20k of them are Alliance. I’m assuming you’re Alliance cause I know most of Bloodsail is.
Leveling in the old world is going to be pretty dead even on the biggest servers. If that’s a deal breaker, I wouldn’t bother transferring or rerolling. Most lowbie dungeon groups are carries.
That is because Blizzard split Classic and TBC Classic into two different parts. And made us pay to get our toons into the new expac. They should have not split the game into two parts. I truly believe that they did that just to kill Classic. if that was their goal then it worked. Lots of players unsubbed 100% of one of my guilds that I am GM of… have had 0 players log in since TBC launched. No one has left the guild.. they just quit and unsubbed from WoW. Lots of them are on my btag list and I have not seen them log in since TBC launch.
Blizzard should have launched it the way they did last time and that way those of us who went to TBC could still interact with the friends who did not.
However, if you want to level up and play with others, then the ways that I have found to be effective (for me), while doing so, have been to:
find a leveling guild that allows everyone to invite
be active in forming groups
invite people you run with to join your guild
build a community around yourself and find one there
The more help you start with, the easier it is to get started, but it can grow quite quickly. Really, even 2-3 other people who are around the same level as you, and play similar days/times can have a huge impact.
You’re judging the entire game on old deserted content. If you had gotten 60 in the past, you wouldn’t be in this situation. Outlands is alive and well on most realms. Getting to 60 by yourself isn’t hard. It’s actually nicer than classic was with groups.
As for “why” you should keep playing, that’s for you to decide.
You say you left classic. What level is your character? You apparently are not level 60 as why would you care about the old world if you were. So if you did want to play TBC just reroll on a larger server. Like others have said they will still not be many in the old world leveling but once you get to Outlands you will be fine. TBC still has probably a year left before WoTLK comes out if it ever comes out. At some point free transfers will be available for Bloodsail if it is currently not so you can move whatever characters you have there to your new server.
Did your guild die? If so just reroll on a different server.
Stuff like this happens when you quit for a while and weren’t even 60. You’re going to have to just deal and maybe quitting is your best option if you do not want to dedicate the time for the game.
I know mega servers etc etc.. But there are dozens of people at every level on at any time on Bene. If you’re ally and want to reroll I hate to say it but as a PSA its probably the way to go
