EDIT: how is Hekili different than the old healbot? Remember in Vanilla when Blizzard banned healbot? It selected the spell, rank and target for you on a single macro button.
As someone who uses Hekili because they’re a turbo-casual (don’t do Mythics, don’t Raid outside of hitting up LFR once in a blue moon, etc), all it does is display an icon for the next spell you should use according to a rotation list which has a few and/or variables thrown in to adapt to different circumstances (is the enemy casting a spell and is it interruptible, are you engaged with 3 or more enemies, etc). You still have to press the key that skill is set to on your action bar for it to do anything. Healbot meanwhile, automated healing, just as you said - it chose the spell, the rank, and the target for you. If Hekili was a “one-button wonder” like Healbot was, sure, you’d have an argument. As it is right now, all it essentially does is give you virtual flashcards - it’s still up to you to press/click the right skills it’s suggesting.
I tried Hekili on my warlock and generally ended up ignoring it. I’d probably use it on a new alt as a rotational crash course trainer, though, just until I learn the general rotation and priorities
That never happened, they changed how the api for macros and spells works. Healbot is still very much a live as is the other addon Clickheal (Now Clique). They just can’t pick the best spell for the situation anymore. (Decursive did similar with dispels/cures)
And yet, addons like Weakauras have some of the detailed documentation for any WoW Addon in history. Heck it has more documentation than some standalone software.
Not to mention there are thousands of written and recorded guides on how to use it. At this point, you’re just sticking to your position for the sake of being stubborn.
not that all classes are hard…but some are. It’s very overwhelming for new players to learn certain specs/classes. BM hunter will always be easy peasy, but if you try things like Enhance sham/sub rogue, it’s a lot to learn and take in.
I think Blizz def needs to get rid of the insane button bloat and def look into simplifying classes a little more. I do think it deters people from picking up new classes/specs. I don’t think the addon should be banned w/ the game being in the state it is. It doesn’t play your class for you, just recommends how to play properly and helps people learn.
I’m aware of this. But a person without a good understanding of security is not going to be able to protect themselves. And, as I said, it doesn’t matter how simple you think it is for a highly experienced player who has done lots of customization to install and fully set up weak auras or any other multi functional addon. That’s not me. I want addons that do what they claim they are going to do without me having to do hours of research and probably have friends try to figure it out for me. As I said, it doesn’t work for me to try to customize a complex addon THAT COMES WITH NO INSTRUCTIONS. And that’s most of them.
I use Hekili on both retail and classic, it helped me learn rotations for single-target and AOE. Once I got used it my rotations, I turned it off for that character. I found it to be a great training addon but it loses its value once you know what you are doing.
Hi, someone who isn’t super experienced with AddOns or coding, while I don’t think I could make anything fancy like they’re talking about, I do like making my own WeakAuras. And while yes, it does come with no instructions, there are videos out there that can help you. While I’m not sure you could make a rotation WeakAura without custom code (correct me if I’m wrong), there are still plenty of WeakAuras that you can make (and therefore know there’s nothing dubious in the code) that will help you keep track of things like CDs and buffs. The people who have seen my screen with all my WAs for MW are normally incredibly confused by how I can play with them.
I use Hekili on all my alts. My alts aren’t there to be competitive. They’re there to level up, progress gear to LFR level, and look cool in transmogs. There’s only so much time in the day and I’m not about to start reading all the guides on how to do a proper rotation for all the classes I don’t plan on maining.
Hate to break it to you, but 3k isn’t in the top 1% or even 2% for that matter. Not sure why you’re hating on people who want to be able to learn a new class rotation, I know a lot of people who use it to learn a new class.
I tried the add-on. It helped a little, but I was so focused on what icon to press next by the visual it was distracting. So, I deleted the add-on and just do the best I can. Does it mean I will top charts, nope. But I am less stressed about what button to push to hit max rotational damage.
The fact this addon is even a thing means rotation are too complicated. over the years they have gone a little overboard with the rotation complexity. I would imagine it chases some new players away.
