I’d say this is more people biting off more than they can chew / not understanding running something slightly less optimal would help them do better just because it’s less to work with / go wrong instead of copying what top players are doing.
Shadow and Disc both received a bunch of changes throughout this expac to “reduce complexity” and the end result is just more time monotonously pressing filler spells.
Good. There should be classes that are more complex. Complexity creates both depth, and the opportunities for skill expression. It’s good that someone playing Enhance at a 50 percentile level can look at a person playing it a 90 percentile level and there can be real opportunities for growth with things like Ele Blast buff uptime and maximizing spirit wolves windows. Imagine if the only thing they could improve on was pressing stormstrike more because the classes were relatively shallow.
I think that’s the issue. Its why I don’t like DPSing. Having 15 step priorities based on RNG procs coupled with If/Then statements just removes the organic feel of DPS IMO. Add on top of that all the mechanics that require attention, plus affixes something has to give.
They’ve complicated the classes to the point every GCD has to be used on something that people need aids to help remind them of all the interconnections. Definitely something I enjoyed when I went to Hardcore. Sometimes just autoattacking and time to think about what I wanted to do next.
Every change to casters blizzard have made in an effort to “reduce complexity” has just resulted in more time in combat where all I’m doing is pressing 1 on my keyboard over and over again. That’s not fun.
The addons were never outright banned, people could and did still use them. Rather then ban addons, Blizzard breaks the api/function they use. They just never functioned right until the authors fixed them. The change to the api came right around the time of BCs original launch.
It’s basically a part of the game I agree. It’s too late to change 20 years later. But WA is way more invasive/game ruining then Hek ever could be. That’s the point of the response.
But in other games… yeah good players got an internal clock and know when to refresh.
Game breaking. Trivializes everything but the mythic raids. Serious advatange to coders/developers. They charge you for WA on Classic realms for WA for raids. So you have to basically pay someone to be effective at the game.
It’s a racket. They never should have allowed addons to get to this point. One of the many mistakes. They actually design content around you having this stuff.
If WAs were limited to tracking things for your character only, like CDs, charges, buffs, etc. I wouldn’t be too upset. I have the bait WA for Smoldy, and it is effective because the sound cue stands out, but he also has a voiceline that serves the same purpose: to tell you what he’s about to do.
There could be instances where it’s not quite as choreographed, but I’ve only raided this expansion and haven’t done any Mythic raiding, so I also don’t have the experience with many of the instances where something was trivialized by a WA.
It will tell you who is getting what debuffs before they actually come out. It will tell you where to stand. You just gotta be a good developer. It’s stupid honestly. If you aren’t a developer they can be infected with viruses if you don’t trust the source. The addon even tells you to be careful installing them. So they are very very toxic if you aren’t incredibly versed in coding.
Yeah, that’s a little much, the point of those mechanics is to figure it out when it comes out, not before.
I haven’t personally come across any WAs like that, but if it’s a WA I didn’t make, I either got it from somebody else or searched it out specifically. I don’t doubt they’re out there, and I’m pretty sure DBM just does that. I get wanting the path of least resistance, but it does take out the on-the-fly decision making that can make an actual challenge out of something. And in the end, isn’t raiding supposed to be a challenge?
The only weakaura I remember people asking everybody else to have was the one for terros that told you where to stand. Which I never got, but told people I had it anyways lol.
I tried, I really did with that weakaura but it’s too much work imo. Just using my eyes works too.
