I was on the Druid discord the other day and asked if those rotation addons were a good thing.
Basically the general sentiment was that ‘tracker’ addons make sense like Esclipse etc, but stuff like Hekilli is detrimental to learning the class especially as something like feral. So you might be onto something though I think at a casual level I might still use it at the start.
A lot of typos there, let me fix em for you. I have all 13 classes between 3-3.3k and I never used a rotation addon. If I feel I need help from an addon, I just shelf that spec until I can revisit and spend more time practicing in low keys (18-20).
Your analogy to the old Healbot ban is not correct. Hekili does not do any type of automation. It doesn’t cast spells or do macros or anything like that. It just shows an icon of what you should cast next. I mean even Blizzard highlights spell icons when they are good to use, not hugely different from what Hekili does if you think about it.
No, it should not be banned. Some people are really bad at this game but this addon makes it possible to bridge the skill gap to be able to run content with friends.

Until you show definitive proof, people arent going to believe you are one of the best WoW players in the world.
I use it all the time. I play 12 alts all 70. All raid geared to some extent. True it does not account for special situations ,but it keeps me on track so to speak . You really cannot play and look at the hekili at the same time so it is more of a glance at it to get my bearings on the rotation. No reason to ban it. It does nothing for you except make suggestions. It does not push the buttons ,you can still mess that up easily.
Maybe the rotations are just too complicated and/or the UI is insufficient
I personally use rotation WA’s as I also have 13 alts (but don’t run mythic) but I make my own rotation WA’s based on IcyVeins rotation suggestions. While these may or may not be optimal, it does help me actually learn the rotation, though I’d still have trouble replicating it without the weakauras. Primarily because I use the WA’s to notify me when the skills are actually available, buffs are not present, debuffs are not present, etc.
As others have mentioned, the Healbot comparison is not a great one, since rotation addons are not making decisions on which spell to cast, only providing guidance on which button the user should press. The user actually has to press the button, which Blizzard has said is the differentiator in banned/not banned addons. It doesn’t mean that Blizzard couldn’t expand the ban definition, but that would be a much more encompassing ban if taken in a general sense.
Yeah. There’s a difference between an addon playing the game by itself while you idly watch and an addon that tells you what’s the next best ability to use.
The former is just laziness, but the latter shows a pretty glaring problem of overcomplicated game design surrounding ability rotations.
We’re talking about an addon here that calculates the next best ability to use. SimC takes a lot of computing power to give you that result. This isn’t something that is easily achievable by a simple human trying to play a freakin’ game.
That’s what Blizzard and other elitists forget about WoW pretty often. IT’S A VIDEO GAME. This isn’t supposed to be rocket science. Why are we being literally graded for our performance, and then that grade is being used to exclude players from progressing in content? What is this? A college application?
Hekili does no actual game inputs itself. Functionally it’s the same as having sticky notes attached to your desk saying what order to push your buttons in.
It doesn’t do any calculating, it’s a pre programmed flowchart. The closest thing if does to calculating is swap between ST and AoE based on how many targets it thinks you’re hitting, which it’s very often wrong about.
Even with HeKilli, my parses are still horrible. Don’t worry, you will still own the top DPS spots.

I try to stay in my lane and do what works for me while not caring what people do that works for them. This app doesn’t hurt me or anyone else so who cares.
I stink at playing a handful of classes. Some people have said to try it but I refuse. I play with feeling and if a class doesn’t click for me that way, it gets shelved.
