Should Blizzard stop all paid for carry groups?

Gold or not, should it still be allowed? The other day I see someone ask to purchase a mythic Carpace and Nzoth kill and today notice how bad it is around the world. And this brings new thoughts to the whole buying runs situation.

How many runs have you all done with pugs that was just not right, a run with someone who has an AOTC and never lived up to their expectations, someone with a 2K IO and would probably die to Hogger. A high rated PVP score, yet has no idea how to PVP. It happens, and whilst most are probably brought with in game gold, which is obtained in some of those cases with real money, it really does devalue the game and the systems Blizzard and players have put in place to stop this happening.

The most notable thing I can recall was a 1.5K IO player back around 8.2. I am 95% certain they were carried as they played really bad and nothing you would expect from that IO and iLVL. I looked at their IO score on the raider website, this dude had about 4 runs total under an M10 across every dungeon, and than about 3 runs in each dungeon on M10 and that was it, their entire history of M+ on that character.

It really does devalue the game, players running around with their M10/M15 achievements they paid for with gold, AOTC they did not earn, CE, rated PVP. And when reading the article on wowhead, people even earning warfront wins by paying for them. How deep does the rabbit hole go and how much are people willing to spend just to get those ‘achievements’?

What is even the point of some achievements if you did not even earn them? I can buy tokens, I can buy gold from a gold farmer, I can pay someone to carry me through everything, it certainly does not mean I earned any of that.

Now I am happy with my AOTC and my M10 achievement each tier knowing I actually put in the work to earn them, so this has nothing to do with players paying for something I don’t have, I don’t strive to earn CE or be in a top 100 guild, I have good friends and good fun when I play.

The issue is that players are not earning what they got in game. So what is even the point of achievements, gear, mounts, pets, gear or anything really if you can simply pay someone to get it for you?

I think the entire system needs to be overhauled, starting with Blizzard overhauling the AH and placing limits on certain items, like the guy on my server STILL listing one of pretty much every single item for an exorbitant amount, like a veiled crystal being listed for 490,000G. And no, they are not listing one item to transfer money, they listing in almost every single category a single item at a massive price to push the averages up.

The AH needs to be region wide, across both factions. We should also be allowed to transfer money to any character on our account for both horde and alliance. Than limit gold transactions between players to only items purchased on the AH. This will ensure nothing can be sold for a massive price more than it should be and another avenue to stop gold buying runs.

Than a system needs to be put in place to stop things like the example used on wowhead, an entire warfront group being disbanded to allow 29 paid players to get access to the boss kill only. At that point what is even the point? I cannot even begin to think that is OK, show up, join a group, spend 2 minutes killing one enemy and get your loot, than come back in 2 weeks to do it again.

There needs to be some form of protection for playing this game. The vote to kick function needs changing and once something like LFG, warfront or IE is started you should not be able to easily remove players.

Recently I was levelling a character, ranged, in Stratholme. Someone pulled aggro from the next mob, not behind, or sideways, but just after one of the tunnel areas. We wiped, tank asked who pulled aggro, I got kicked. I whispered the tank who said “I don’t care, I just seen Barthilas and hit yes jaja”.

‘But they don’t have to play with you if they don’t want’, bad luck, we joined the same random content as each other, I have just as much luck of getting someone who ruins your run as you do, like the healer I got yesterday who refused to heal the last boss in ToS. But I was stuck with them. It’s simple, if you don’t like how the run is going, if you don’t like someone in the run, than leave. You asked to be in that run as much as anyone else.

TL;DR - Buying runs is pointless, it gives you no sense of achievement and devalues pretty much anything in the game that non ‘P2W’ players are earning with time and effort.

  1. Blizzard need to fix the AH, stop players being able to sell stuff overpriced, limit the amount people can charge and take control back on your own game.
  2. Stop groups from being able to easily kick others from an instance.
  3. Make the game better to recognise players who are not contributing to the a run and auto kick them, this includes premade groups who carry someone that sits AFK.

Place emphasis on player responsibility to be responsible for your own account, your own actions, your own progress. It’s perfectly fine to not have the best iLVL in the game, it’s OK to not have all the current achievements, there is nothing wrong with being a middle tier player, you don’t need to show off all your achievements just to prove to anyone anything, especially if all it is going to do is bite you in the bum down the track.

Full disclosure, I didn’t bother to read any of this except the title. No. They shouldn’t.

They should but they wont. I’d at least like to see is the sellers get their own chat channel so we can keep trade open and ignore them.

Also think about it. Blizz gets 20 bucks a pop for selling gold to those that buy the carries. Its win win for them

Thank you, but go read this and maybe you will change your mind.

That has nothing to do with blizzard and everything to do with the Chinese middle man neteasy…

The thing is you can’t stop carries from happening, how do you discern a paid carry let’s say from someone helping his friend?

The only thing I think they could do is ban all advertising of carries in-game.

But to be fair most players that buy carries for me do it more as a timesaver, they don’t have the time to gear their characters and feel the fun part is once you’re geared. Which for me sounds like also a design problem, gear is too strong because it scales too fast.

I think the Ah thing is another thing, I don’t feel they’re gonna do another rework after having just done one. They could ban ah addons, I think that would be fair. It feels like some of them play the ah basicly for you.

How about we just ban China instead.

Only if they completely disable the AH and make 100% of all items soulbound.

This includes gather mats, resources, mog items, etc.

If they raised the drop rate on stuff, like mounts, rare shoulder items, that scythe from Legion and gave us stuff to actually use the tokens for, like do something decent with professions that actually require us to continually buy mats than they might actually get more people sticking around and buying tokens.

Sometimes we don’t get the opportunity to earn them on our own, so buying it is the next best thing. If it’s only for gold, and not through shady practices, I see nothing wrong with that.

I’m lucky in that this tier, I have a good guild to progress with and I recently earned AotC, no gold cost required. However not everyone’s going to be as lucky and might end up having to buy it, or miss out on a limited time mount.

I don’t play on Chinese servers. Please explain to me why I should bother with an article about Chinese WoW servers.

That’s literally what DH does…

Yes cause what people do is buy runs, get achievements and use that so they can host AOTC groups.

The game is ment to be played, not carry and do nothing. I see more buy these run groups then I do normal groups when i used to play.

But there is nothing wrong with not having your AOTC or your current achievements. There is nothing wrong if you are not good enough to raid at mythic levels. Instead of thinking “I must have X or I cannot have fun”, maybe Blizzard need to start asking players why this is and sort the game out.
