Should a Paladin be wielding a 2h Sword or 2h Mace?

Both is acceptable imo but the most iconic paladin weapon is Ashbringer, a sword.

Too soon.

Human - mace
Elf - sword

Ashbringer is a weapon of zeal and not pure.

It pre-dates his accident by a while. I hope heā€™s doing well.

My paladin is using a recent artifact mace appearance that dropped while I was unlocking the mount with all the quests. Itā€™s neat looking.

I reckon sword.

But only because itā€™s what Iā€™ve always used.

Arthas (paladin): Hammer
Uther: Hammer
Turalyon: Sword
Tirion Fordring: Sword
Yrel: Mace
Bolvar (Paladin): Sword and Shield
Lady Liadrin: Sword and shield
Alexandros Morgraine (Paladin): Sword

So despite what naysayers from either side say you canā€™t really go wrong with either.

Why does that sound so familiar? Who was Clark?

Also, the answer is mace.

Despite what reasonable people might say, swords are lame and maces are the way to go.

Wasnā€™t he the dude who wore a Superman transmog?

If I could find a 2h-mace that looked as good as my Very Light Saber, Iā€™d use that transmog. There arenā€™t near enough translucent weapons, and especially armor, in the game.

I would say it depends of the aesthetics of the race that paladin is.

Blood Elf and Zandalari definitely lean more toward swords, in my opinion. Dwarf, Draenei, and Tauren are definitely hammer users.

Humans can go either way.

2H Sword for humans, 2H Mace for both dwarf and tauren, Polearm Blood Elf, 2H axe for zandalari

Iā€™m pretty sure that these days the Hammer of the Naaru graphic is on a weapon given in the bags for doing random groups while leveling

Paladins wear full plate. They would often use (usually flanged) maces because they were more effective at injuring another person wearing plate than a sword.

If you look at historical knights, the sword, not a hammer, not a mace are what were used by Knights be they holy or otherwise. Two handers were not as prevailing as people may think. Most used a 1 handed weapon and shield. Famous paladin archetypes are Charlemange, Arthur, Lancelot and Sir Gawain. None of which used a mace or a hammer.

That said, wield what you want. Youā€™re super man, the sheer size of WoW weapons mean youā€™re using a 2 hander with 1 hand, so your 2 hander will be epic. So BE Epic
