Should a CM be snarky on twitter?

No he made a loaded statement implying it was players fault why employees were laid off when the company made record profits.

And he then loaded the question about devs when no devs we know of were let go to garner sympathy and come off as a victim.

I have no respect for him or his so called professionalism.

I agree with your post but I disagree with this because we’re all human and we should all be able to say what we need to regardless of topic.

That said, yes there are repercussions for this. But I still think we all need to have the freedom to express our thoughts.

Besides, how else are you going to know you’re dealing with a jackass or not?
I’d prefer to know right off but that’s me.

Having the ability to express yourself also relieves stress. I hope companies also know this.

This makes me want to read what he said.

**** What Tiapriestess said is spot on.

He took a pot shot at the community implying it was the communities fault for while the QA, and other CMs were let go.

No we are not going to let this go while good CMs are let go aka Golden yak.

Let this be a lesson that a private account is not a “safe space” if you are going to talk about work and your customers in a bad light and will be made available publicaly. That is how the internet works. The internet is not a true safe space.

A true safe space is locking yourself in your room and turning up the music. :sunny:

True…he CAN write whatever he wants. But if that reflects poorly on his Employers in any way, he does have to answer for whatever he writes. So he CAN, but that does not mean he SHOULD.

This is not the first time he has done this and it has gone on too long. This is not conduct that is fit for a CM to act.

Venting is one thing but taking a pot shot at the community for a decision that is made by corporate makes zero sense.

What he says has an impact on the company he works for because he publicizes his job with the company on his twitter feed. His primary role is customer relations and as such, sending out unprofessional tweets about the customers he is supposed to ensure stay customers is probably not a good business decision.

I have never been impressed with this person, and I have only seen him on Q&A’s. So I am not surprised by his unprofessional behavior.

As long as he is not breaking company policy, Lore can say whatever he wants on his Twitter account, regardless of whether its a personal account or an official developer account.

You don’t get to dictate to him, or Blizzard, what is acceptable or not. So get down off your high horse and grow up a little.

Okay. Or, and hear me out… that is simply your version of the situation.

Instead of being rude to customers, how about they were telling you, on your day off, and during your work week, and when you’re on vacation, and going out to many of your friends and co-workers saying things like

  • “You should be fired.”
  • “You’re all terrible at your jobs.”
  • “Literally kill yourself.”

There’s no need to exaggerate here; they have received death threat numerous times, included requiring security details to and from work.

Now, do this on repeat nearly every day, multiple times per day, for the next few years.

Now, you can begin your reaction. When they continuously dehumanize and demonize everything you do, it takes its toll.

Just to add – this isn’t specifically posted at you, just more the actual situation in case people like being in the know.

Customers can provide feedback. If you interpret that as a high horse it appears you miss the context and nuance of it all.

If he is going to be the CM now that the Golden yak is gone he needs to act accordingly.

Furthermore, taking pot shots at the community for what the company he represents did is not acceptable no matter what.

What makes you say this?

He is acting the same way he has always acted, and that’s not going to change just because Ythisens is gone. Also, unless I missed a tweet somewhere, he did not take potshots at the community. He stated that it sucks to see the people whinging about companies laying people off, when it was those same people not a few weeks prior saying that everyone should be fired. He told the people who follow him on Twitter to support game devs while they have their jobs, not just after they lose them.

Regardless.

If those people are toxic then they cant be shocked/shook when they get toxic back. Point blank period.

They sure do.

But they can do so in a non-toxic, constructive way. Be rude, get rude back. Simple.

Sure, hes free from having his rights revoked on a legal level. Its called freedom of speech

But most adults know that if they do things that put their company in a bad light that they are very open to consequences regardless of when and where they did it.

Yes he did. He basically said its the players fault the layoffs happened. That people get upset over layoffs but dont support the game. Instead of resting the blame on blizzards inability to put out a desirable product he blamed the playerbase for not blindly swallowing their shallow pile of crap

That is taking a pot shot at the community.

Yes most of us were upset to see QA, marketing and other CMs laid off. No one was saying everyone should be fired. Most people are saying some of the devs should be re-assigned or let go (eg tablet pruner).

Furthermore, the current community supports the game and the company he works for. And yet his company still laid off these people when they made record profits.

How can player community change such an outcome? Exactly they can’t and he knows it so he took that pot shot.

People were not rude when people were showing sympathy for Blizz employees being laid off.

People are rude to CMs that don’t do their jobs aka you know who.

No, he didn’t, and you’re reaching to Reed Richards levels by saying that. There is no hidden meaning behind his words, no secret context. His statement was clear, that it sucks to see people jumping on companies for firing people when it was those same people saying that everyone should be fired not a few weeks earlier.

And you can’t have been on these forums for very long if you haven’t seen at least one thread where someone calls for the firing of the development team, or a specific developer because they don’t like X change. I’ve seen it myself plenty of times.

Truth of the matter is that this ‘community’ (if you want to call it that, I’ve seen cesspools with more culture and decency in them at times) has on multiple occasions jumped on the ‘fire the devs’ bandwagon, demanded that people unsub en-masse because X thing wasn’t done on their schedule or Y feature was implemented in a way that doesn’t suit them, and then they get outraged/shocked when layoffs happen and rip into the company that is doing the layoffs.

I swear I could make a surprised pikachu meme out of this.

Provide a link or a thread where a player asked for a QA, marketer or the golden yak to be fired.

We will be awaiting your response.

His intent was clear to lay the blame at players for BFA being lackluster and for his company he works for deciding to cut out non devs so they can hire more devs.

Players do not have a say in that matter. Taking a pot shot at the community is never acceptable for a CM and it shows he is not mature enough to work with the public in any capacity.

He literally did not blame the community for BFA being lackluster. You’re making stuff up, just like the guy I replied to. Stop it. You only make yourself look foolish.
