On one of my mages, Shimmer doesn’t work. I get the message “You can’t do that right now.” Shimmer works fine on other mages I have.
I’ve tried: relogging. reloading. renaming cache folder. removing all addons. respecing. removing arcane momentum. adding arcane momentum back.
I’ve waited for hours. I’ve changed locations. I’ve died and resurrected. Nothing works. Can anyone help?
No need to rename the cache folder, you can just delete it.
Do the full UI reset by renaming your Interface and WTF files, then delete the cache folder and restart the game. See if that does anything.
Did that. Game was fully reset (annoying) but the problem persisted for that character.

Does that specific mage have the talent selected?
Yes. It’s selected. It’s NOT on cooldown. She is in a rested area. She is not in combat or cc’d. Just standing there.
She does the animation for the spell, but it gives the red error message “You can’t do that right now.”
On another mage, it works fine and when on cooldown there is NO spell animation. So it’s weird that the broken mage does the spell cast animation, but it doesn’t work and gives the error message.
you’ll probably want to move this to bug reports, and include which mage this is happening on, and where you’re located.
Sounds like a hidden debuff possibly take off all you gear fly as high as u can and dismount or try entering a BG/arena.
Tried the death thing already too. No change.
Do you have Shimmer as part of a macro? Apparently that doesn’t always work properly.
Do you have Displacement talented as well?

Have you tried swapping to Blink and see if that works, then maybe swapping back?
Edit 2: Another strange question, but do you have any quests in your logs? Some of them restrict movement abilities though it’s few and far between.
When you did the whole reset UI stuff, did you happen to restart your computer and then load the game? That important bit is often missed when resetting the UI.
It is not a macro. I have displacement talented. But I removed it and no change. I removed all blink related talents. No change.
She has minimal quests since she’s an alt.
My guess is that you had an aura or some kind of state stuck on you that was preventing you using the Blink/Shimmer ability.
I think jumping into a skirmish or arena match may have worked to clear it too, but it should be clear now if you want to give it a try.
