any of you find anything shield block will affect usefully? i just tested it with a feral friend and all bleeds+maim go through it like it isn’t there
i’ve seen “blocked” pop up when i try to hamstring a shield healer enough times in bfa that it feels unfair that shield block active doesn’t prevent any debuff applications, but with the current “100% block” version we have access to it’d be unfair the other way to prevent debuffs…not sure where the happy medium should be. https://www.wowhead.com/spell=132404/shield-block
i’m gonna try it against more stuff ofc, maybe it works on kidney xd
Shield block has never been super useful in PvP except for the damage bonus to do Massive Shield Slams back in the day. There is just too much magic dmg.
What I really would love to see is some way to have Glad Stance again which was the best Dps spec ever to be in this game. There should be some talent or something that you can take as Arms/Fury and go Dps/Shield. Since Arms/Fury has access to Shield Slam.
People say why can’t you play Dps… well maybe give me a sword and board Dps spec and I’ll be there again. Glad stance was also the only time I did Raid progression since it was the only way to really enjoy pumping some dmg with a Shield as Dps.
i was chasing an rsham once on my warrior a month or two ago and he went into ghost wolf, i pressed hamstring, and he blocked it. in ghost wolf. i was so pissed off. Hate how this isn’t auto applied
Of course it does do you guys not know how block works it doesn’t stop dmg or the attack
Well I know how block works and you don’t it doesn’t stop dmg. It won’t stop effects. It does nothing against dots. Hence why it’s close to worthless.
Old Block was flat 30% dmg reduction and Crit block from Prot warrior Mastery doubled it too 60%.
Block got redesigned in BFA to mitigate a portion of dmg due to Shield Block value. Which is better because as Shield Block value scales so does mitigation. With a max level shield in BFA before Prepatch you were at 60%+
Now even at 100% block ALL attacks still land!! It’s just blocked. However the dmg will be mitigated by Shield Block value %. If you have a good shield currently that will be about 41% mitigation.
All mitigation it is capped at 85%. So even if Shield Block value scales and you get critical block it can’t go past 85%.
Why do you think I had to Re- roll from my Prot warrior main? It doesn’t have any mitigation in a Magic dmg world. Where Prot Pal because of Holy Shield blocks literally almost everything from spells, poisons, spell dots, sieges, cannons, traps, trinkets, essences, lions, tigers and bears oh my…
Once again a blocked attack always lands it isn’t avoidance like Dodge/Parry.
Keep in mind Dodge/Parry are now on different hit tables now too. Remember WotLk when we were unhittable at 102.4%? All 3 were on the same table and they did away with that and we now have a 2 roll hit table. First it’s Dodge/Parry then Block.
Now you learned a few things about mitigation, hit tables and the history of it. Next episode we can cover EHP if you want.
Shield Block and Shield Slam are worthless for dps Warriors. I get what Blizzard is trying to do where they want Warriors as a class to be some kind of off tank class even while specced dps but if the mitigation from Shield Block is worthless no dps Warrior is going to waste their dps by swapping to a shield.
They should just scrap the idea if they’re not going to make it usable. It’s a terrible idea imo to begin with because I never liked pre mop weapon swapping Warrior as much as other Warriors did. I always saw it as a weakness and Warriors are lucky they put Ignore Pain back into the game or else Blizzard probably would double down on the weapon swapping and make Shield Block part of the defensive equation.
Currently yes it is. I feel like they had plans to do something with it and just ran out of time. It’s in the game now though and I think it’s good they added it. Just needs to be developed and warrior design to get better depth.
hey without replying to trolls(it’s pointless, don’t do it, be better everybody) this is what i’m trying to target in ferreting out how block does and doesn’t work. anyone earnestly know why that happened in bfa but doesn’t happen on shield block now? do shield healers still do this in SL?
i’m almost convinced it’s something unique and possibly bugged with hamstring because anyone who has played classic warrior can tell you mobs with shields seem to block hamstring at an abnormal rate
so maybe it’s just some 16 year old bug with hamstring being prone to being blocked
Indeed the trolls do ruin good information from getting out on the forums. We must be stern against them and march on to keep helping the ones that need help.
That’s why I make sure to understand the mechanics of the game better than anyone then pass on that knowledge. I love Theorycrafting and looking at EHP, Mitigation mechanics and the math behind it sometimes more than actually playing. It’s fun and very RPG.
Murf maybe I’m confused but a block doesn’t actually stop the attack, it reduces it by… 30%? Damage I thought. Like say you “Block” a Baseline 100 damage mortal strike, deep wounds and mortal wounds is still applied but you take 70 damage instead of 100, or whatever % of damage a block stops. I’m probably just wrong tho
Probably because it has two components : A physical snare and a damaging attack. If you look at wowhead these are separate effects. The blocking tech probably doesn’t know what to do with a blocked snare so it’s all or nothing. Really should be taken off the table for blocking purposes but good luck getting a dev to ever do that.
interesting-two-pronged attacks like that were really prevalent in bfa dungeon situations, my brewmaster friend would talk constantly about how he only had to proc a dodge on half of an attack to totally null it with his dodge-based mastery
