Shield barrier is now prot only? (No, it WAS prot only. Until WOD. I was just wrong.)

This used to be a general ability for warriors, meaning arms and fury could use it without a shield. Am I the only one who remembers this? I was wracking my brain after 81 expecting to find this ability in my spellbook only to find it is now prot only, and there’s virtually no discussion about it, I couldn’t find an article or notes about this change or the intentionality of it. If anyone can point me to one i’d love to see it. I can’t really understand why this would have been changed, was it really too op for other specs to have this for some scaled down mitigation?

EDIT Nope, this was Prot spec only until [Patch 6.0.2] (2014-10-14):** Shield Barrier is now available for all Warrior specializations (was Protection only) and requires Defensive Stance.

To be fair it was fifteen years ago

Are you mixing up shield barrier with shield wall?

Shield barrier is a short cd mitigation tool that works like shield block, but instead of blocking absorbs both physical and magic damage. Shield wall is a 3m defensive CD that all warrior specs get.

Nope, i’m talking about shield barrier. It used to be available for all warrior specs in mop.

This was removed from being baseline to prot only very early into MoP.
In fact it was in the first balance patch of the first content / season.

That explains why I didn’t remember it, I was a little late coming back to the game for mop originally

That is correct, editted for clarity, after implementation it became that this was Prot spec only until [Patch 6.0.2] (2014-10-14):** Shield Barrier is now available for all Warrior specializations (was Protection only) and requires Defensive Stance.
