it’s already been well established that this is an issue caused by World Quest Lists.
update your addons.

Already updated it otherwise World Quest List would’ve crashed Shell Game the second it started

then you need to do a UI reset, to get rid of whatever it corrupted.

Nuclear option is extreme
I just disabled all of my addons and finished it that way, closing
I know you marked it as solved, but a UI reset is not a “nuclear” option. In fact, I can guarantee you that all you had to do is to delete your WoW cache files and disabling your addons would not have been needed.
Even if you update an addon, corrupted files from the old bad/outdated addon can linger around in the cache.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I was worried about going and doing Shell Game with World Quests List, my Twitch/Curse client had updated the addon yesterday before I started playing, I went in and did the game twice on two separate accounts, the overlay worked, the game completed, and it was…fine?
So it might be a conflict with another addon that I don’t have that’s causing the issue.

That’s possible. Also possible that the addon author fixed the issue, and that’s why it updated.

They did. The changelog specifically addressed this particular bug, and the dev’s comments hinted at the root cause.

So that’s the situation with World Quest List. Update to 9.1+ and it may solve the freeze, or you may still need to do a UI reset if there was enough persistent damage to cvars etc.
