Sharding: Destroyed My Server!

I was on Eldre Thalas when it first opened back in early 2006.

I have never left it and have many great memories from this server.

But now my server is gone.

What happened, do you ask?

Did the players all leave?

No. Sure, the population is down as it is across the board in this game because of the horrible decisions made by the Developer. But there are still players.

What happened is this: Blizzard destroyed my server.

Now, wherever I go in this game and almost every single player I see is from some other server. We have all been sharded together into some hodgepodge mess of a pseudo-server.

It is wrong that you have done this Blizzard!

It is a slap in the face that my beloved Eldre Thalas is now gone. You have taken it from me and I want it back.

The players in this game are furious at the loss of server identity and this one move you have made with sharding has single handedly destroyed all sense of community.

Merge servers if you must, to maintain population (or how about just fixing the game so people come back!) but end sharding.

We, the players, want our community back…

And we want it back now.

Welcome back, Rastlin! Always nice to see you!

And I agree that sharding has to go, but for me it’s for completely different reasons…the least of which is that every time I shard in and out of different servers, my laptop (built specifically for gaming) begins to have various problems (including overheating and shutting down).

So, yeah, sharding needs to go.

It’s Sunday, captain. Sunday’s finest (which Rastlin is a part of) is doing what they do best: Making a mess in the forums before receiving their weeklong ban for doing so. Happens every Sunday like clockwork.

They need a proper fix for servers once and for all. The current iteration is a sewn together mess designed to try and retain server identity, but it doesn’t work. Mostly it doesn’t work since things like wowprogress only partially recognize the connected servers, so things like raiding ranks are still shown by small server … which in turn makes some environments look dead. They just need to create mega servers and get on with it.

It sucks pretty hard that while out in the world I never see other people from my server or my own guild. Sharding takes a steamy hot crap on the feeling of belonging to a server. I feel sharding goes against what MMORPG’s are truly about. But then again, we’re not playing an MMORPG are we; we’re playing an MMORPG simulator - as Preach refers to modern WOW as.

Yea, it sucks imo…wow doesn’t want to merge servers for Legitimate reasons and probly some reasons that are really not justifiable…

Crz is an illusion to make it seem that there is more people

For the most part it has made communities on servers non existence…what i mean by that, before CRZ
If one was a jerk It was harder and harder for them as time went on to find groups…

Now with cross realm you can be more of a jerk with less Consequences for your actions…

Blizzard stop pandering to dumb players. PVP server on the select server list can’t be any more self explanatory!

Give us back PVP servers and get rid of CRZ!!!

because the group finder (which was around long before crz) totally cares about who gets grouped with who… right?

If all you see are players from other servers, that means that without sharding, you’d see almost nothing. Sharding didn’t destroy your server, it just kept the corpse animated after it had already died.
