Yeah thank you for proving my point. How many people do you think were there at most? 100? 150? That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Now lets just say they have a cap of 6k specifically for launch. That’s 10X more people in your starting area.
No… it wouldn’t… launch day is going to have 10 fold the amount of players in one area than gates will have.
Listen man I am talking in circles now. It’s either you big boy up and start reading what I’m saying or we can’t play with eachother anymore, this is getting embarrassing.
i’m a female. so i’ll big girl up. haha
dude. so you think the starting area for humans will have 1000 people in it all at once? cause that’s ten times 100.
Yes… yes I believe it could which is what sharding will be used for. The way they described launch was that they are using sharding with higher population caps to make sure the server stays at a healthy population down the road. So this means they could make the cap on your server 10k temporarily and just shard everyone until the tourists leave and bring it down to 3k or whatever. I don’t think they will make it as high as 10k but that’s the idea.
You are both talking in circles. This is why I stopped responding to this long ago. You both have a disagreement on something and don’t see the others view as valid. It’s like a religious person debating a atheist on the street corner. No one is changing anyone’s view in that street corner. Experiences change views. We both have had different experiences so we both see things differently. The only embarrassing thing is your ego.
Really that’s the reason why? I thought it was because you were uneducated on this topic so you just ‘put your foot down for what you believed’ and decided to keep it that way.
Private servers don’t even have servers. It’s server emulation software being run on some guy’s laptop somewhere and opened up to the public through a router. This notion that pserver owners have access to expensive technology without having to charge their users for upkeep is patently ridiculous.
honestly, i dont mind sharding because 1) i dont world pvp/duel or rp and 2) i like having access to quest requirements and if zone is over populated, that aint gonna happen. but i commiserate with people who hate sharding because they want to pvp/duel/rp or even as that demo showed, be invited to a group and not have the server suddenly decide that would make the server too populated and shard ya. this is why i thought a semi permament named duplicate shard would be better. server too full, if you want to play on stormrage server, select stormrage2 and when the population evens out, it will be merged with stormrage1.
I know when I play a massively multiplayer game, ‘plenty’ of people satisfies my desire. Oh wait, actually you can see ‘plenty’ of people in pretty much every single game that has a multiplayer element. Mmos should stand out and offer something other genres can’t, and sharding does the opposite.
yeah massive multiplayer sounds like it means lots and lots of people on at same time, which is still technically true with sharding but only technically. if you cant see them then it’s certainly not evident to anyone but the devs watching the servers.
