I’m willing to bet all the instances of this are a bug. Even on retail sharding only happens when there’s a LARGE amount of players in a zone. With all the accounts of how dead the beta realms are as of yet, even if they haven’t fully removed sharding from this realm/client yet, I doubt it could even trigger.
Glad there is a beta test going on rather than releasing this thing too early!
Hopefully Blizz can get these bugs squashed before stress test. So as to judge performance of a working system as well as possible.
They could be trying layering on a small scale to test out the tech?
Maybe if the game had 500 people online, they just created a layer and now each have 250?
It’s definitely a shift in shards, because the original guard disappears. Look at the top video for evidence that they haven’t switched to layering.
You mean… sharding?
Whatever makes me sound smarter.
I think she meant by player numbers, not zone sharding. So instead of having a massive 3,000 player layer, maybe they made it 250 or smaller to test out the tech on the smaller beta population. That I can see happening and then just discovering bugs like this in the process.
If they did, the tech failed because they specifically said once people started in a layer, they wouldn’t layer-hop unless triggered by grouping.
Without seeing what he was doing prior, that looks like a respawn to me.
There are two guards defending that quest mob.
Rewatch it and pay attention to the almost dead guard. That’s the key indicator.
The mob he’s killing is a Theramore Guard. Two more Theramore Guards appear, and the first one disappears.
That tower is at Northwatch, and there’s no protected NPCs there in Vanilla (only Retail).
Also there looks to be some movement behind the stairs. Like a guard spawned out of no where back there as well.
That’s definitely weird, but that doesn’t appear to be sharding.
We?
No my friend, WE arent beta testing anything. YOU may be, and THEY may be, but I certainly havent got an invite.
So you can stop with the “we” as there is no “we” in “me”.
Much the same, now I’m free, there are no strings on me.
Its precisely what you’d expect if were forcibly shard-hopped mid battle. Generally you don’t move mid battle, but this is beta.
Two untouched guards in the new shard, the almost dead one stayed in the old and you even see him reset.
It appears to be a server issue. Did they announce shard or layer testing for the server reset?
This isn’t an unknown behavior of mobs to vanish and gibb people like that. I’ve seen it before.
We get it.
You’re bothered that you didn’t get an invite, or upset about how it’s being handled.
Not everything needs to be about that.
Definitely phasing/sharding. You people ready to panic yet?
/Sees “don’t worry, it’s only beta” being used in a nonironic way.
/Wonders how to tell everyone nicely about what’s been happening in BFA.
It’s definitely a problem, but its one we can raise, and they can fix… because we’re in beta.
Can’t be phasing, there’s nothing in vanilla data to trigger phasing.
Sharding? maybe? or maybe it’s layering and it has some bugs in it?
