Anybody else having crazy mixed feelings about this movie!? Lol I love me some kung fu but marvel has been rather disappoint lately. The whole movie plot is overly predictable and the trailers have given a lot of the stuff away. I am not sure, I was so hyped for this movie but now I am like… I don’t know if I want to see it. 😵💫
Jokes look bad too, I dunno the comedy in trailers is not making me laugh.

Yes, the plot seems predictable , but still I’m going to watch it for the fight scenes and special effects.

That movie is going to flop. Even the Chinese hates it.

I can’t see it making much money at all compared to the Marvel movies of old. Same with that Eternals movie. There’s no hype. No one knows who these heroes are. For me, the Marvel universe wrapped up nicely with Endgame.
There’s also talk that the new Bond movie needs to make at least 900 million to get it’s money back because of covid and pushing the release date back and back. Plus there’s also “rumors” floating around that’s it’s sorta getting woke and no one wants that in a Bond movie. So that’s another thing going against it. It’ll most prolly flop hard as well.

Oh look, pretentious wannabe movie critics on Forum posts, how very unoriginal
Iron Fist and Shang Chi Master of Fung Fu were there Marvel Comics trying to ride the Marial Arts Craze at the time when Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon came out. I don’t remember either of them being that popular so was surprised when Netflix did IronFist and Marvel did Shang Chi. If I remember correctly Shang Chi was supposed to be the ultimate assassin for his Father Fu Manchu but he turned against him and was continually fending off attacks from other assassins sent after him. I only remember one or two story lines being really good but I feel like they are just trying to cash in on the name but not really the original character.
I’m looking forward to seeing it, mostly because I’ll be seeing it with my brother and nephew in landmark cinema Laser Ultra.
Pretty close. Shang-Chi was created in 72, Iron Fist in 74, during the Hong Kong Martial Arts Movie craze, Marvel wanted to acquire the comic rights to Kung Fu, the David Carradine TV series, but Warner Communications declined. Instead they acquired the rights for Fu Manchu, a somewhat controversial character created by English pulp novelist Sax Rohmer and seen in a number of pulp novels and movies in the first half of the 20th century. Shang himself is a fully Marvel character (modeled directly off of Bruce Lee), Fu Manchu’s son raised to be his right hand and to believe his father was a noble hero. When sent to stop the “evil westerners” seeking to stop Fu Manchu’s work Shang found out his father really was the villain and worked to stop him. Later on Marvel lost the rights to Fu so Marvel retconned the origin a bit, “Fu Manchu” being one of many aliases used by a near-immortal sorcerer Zheng Zu. Shang had a pretty good initial run (74 to 83) and two other shorter series, and remains fairly popular having been a member of the Avengers and several other teams, his skills being great enough to hold his own against Captain America. Iron Fist’s solo book wasn’t quite as successful but he had considerably greater success teaming with Luke Cage and has been a member of several teams including the Avengers and the Defenders. The movie looks promising and despite the rantings of the toxic online dweebs I haven’t seen a single MCU movie that’s failed yet, so I’m more than willing to give it the benefit of the doubt
Based on early reviews from critics, it seems Shang Chi is a lot better than the trailers make it seem.
I don’t really trust the critics tbh. It won’t able break even at the box office.
Name me one MCU movie that bombed at the box office. Hell, Black Widow had a solid profit and it was mired by the Pandemic
The Incredible Hulk.
Pandemic or not its has a $200M budget and has to make so around $600M to break even at the box office and I am sure it cost more with reshoot amount of plush back from covid. So far that movie had made $369.8M…that’s not good.
Three days ago an article said Disney + had made 125 million so far with Black Widow bringing the world total up to $500 million so your right that’s still not good.
Only made for Disney+ not for box office.
Eventually there will be an MCU movie that will bomb at the box office.
The Good Dinosaur was the first Pixar movie to do that.
There’s always a first.
I saw it last night and yet it was ok film. It doesn’t feel like a marvel movie tbh.
Yeah, this. 100% Predictable, even the post credit scene was completely obvious 45 minutes into the movie. Also, the music was highly annoying, akin to the Black Panther music. A lot of the action scenes used waaaaaaaaay too much shaky camera, which is a pet peeve of mine.
For a summer action movie I give it a solid B-. For an MCU movie, I give it a solid C-.
Not bad for underrated superhero but we shall see come week 2.
