For perspective, my response comes off the back of a full weekend of team fighting at blacksmith farming my 110k honor for rank 7. Classic pvp isnât a 1v1 game, so I donât care about 1v1 balance as much as team balance. Shamans are very strong in a team setting, they have been for 20 years. Our utility isnât that much above what itâs always been, we just arenât forced into ele/resto or gimmicky 1 shots anymore.
I understand swapping to kill a totem isnât as fun as letting a chimaera shot rip thru an opponent, but itâs a team fight and a mechanic that you will need to address as alliance fighting against shamans. Just like sitting on a paladin spending every earth shock cd to interrupt to hardly any gain isnât fun for us.
We can predrop totems on the way and move them to the fight yes, but as soon as we need decoy/tremor or grounding our dps buff for our group is gone and usually itâs not worth the mana to cast them in the first place knowing we will be dropping decoy and grounding as soon as the fighting starts.
I mentioned disease cleansing totem because Iâm seeing a lot of shadow priests on the alliance team and while I can always press cure disease on myself in a 1v1 in a team fight as a melee Iâm not gonna be spending globals casting it on team mates. I can have disease or poison totem down, not both. If thereâs rogues and/or hunters we need poison cleansing down.
We also donât run lava burst as DW, only 2h because we canât run lava lash. Lava burst critswith mental dexterity before the pvp aura were around 1000-1200, so now 500-600.
You honestly canât argue the strength of holy paladins for any kind of group pvp
Youâll notice I didnât mention ret, but holy paladin. Even tho ret can counter literally everything in the game with bubble, and still do stupid damage after the pvp aura.
If our grounding totem eats an exo instead of hoj weâre toast and you know it.
So your telling me your a shaman but you donât know that riptide is on wrist and metal dex is on helm?

you may have been toast before 50% global damage reduction, but we arenât killing anyone inside a hoj window in with the current damage reduction. thatâs IF Iâm even lucky enough to land one, have you ever tried to stun an orc? love it when thereâs an orc shaman FC running right by our hut near our ramp, I run right on top of him mounted, press HoJ and watch the good ol resist on my screen as he continues on his merry way. 25% chance but 100% when it seems to matter lmao. I seriously do feel lucky whenever I land a hoj on an orc.
let me reiterate, I think enhance was fine in the state of the game when everybody died fast, but with 50% damage reduction, you can wait out the hoj and just auto attack twice when you come out of it to get your free 0 mana cost 2k critting heal. you spend less resources healing yourself than an actual healer buddy. I think 30-35% damage reduction is healthy for the game and for pvp but enhancement shaman self healing with their kit is the outlier, the donât have to cast anything nor does it cost anything
Youâre over selling the crap out of both orc racial and maelstrom healing
what am I overselling about maelstrom healing? it costs 0 mana and crits at least 2k, saw my friend in just the 6 piece emerald set crit healing that much. oh my bad, it must take 3 autos dual wielding instead of 2.
Healing wave crits around 1800 with mental dexterity up, and rarely crits because we have very little spell crit as a melee spec. It takes a lot more than a few auto attacks to get 5 stacks of maelstrom, and itâs dispellable.
oh man I sure hope the one class in the game that can dispel a shaman sure doesnât do that, then. that sounds rough. sure have a lot more time to build up that maelstrom when we all take 50% less damage, though. silver linings.

malstrom is rng always has been but you can get 5 stacks instantly with a wf proc. I donât see how I can die on my sham with this garbage damage nerf in the game. I havenât played much since Friday because of how boaring it is. And the dispell argument is whatever since only 2 classes in the game can do it and one of them is on your faction. You can also cast a heal with 3 or 4 stacks and still get it off pretty easy that + riptide makes it pretty easy to stay up
If you played one bg with the DR and then quit for the weekend because you didnât like it you donât have enough experience to be commenting on it.
I mean I was doing fine before the DR and you donât even know that riptide and mental dex are on 2 different rune slots. I am sure I have played more sham than you. You probably over extend and then die and then cry. Probably donât have a shield on your bar either. I am in a 20 min BG queue right now lets see how quickly I get bodied
50% chance per hit so 10 hits for a instant cast. Never remembered pallys whining about how OP AoW was when it worked for FoL on every crit and pallies would crit near 40%.
