Hard to square this dismissal of just screwing around with the folks preening about accomplishing something… just sayin’
They probably did, since this guild is run by the Shaman and he’s had the same semi-dedicated crew of people stick with him to force the square peg into the round hole since Classic. No one is taking away their fun.

I think the point is they accomplished doing something the forums have claimed couldn’t be done. It’s like those other vids where “40 naked hunters tank Ony” or whatever they were. I don’t think most folks are or will be under the delusion that shaman will ever be capable of legitimately tanking raids like real tank specs.
…though it would be funny to see a few gullible guilds recruit shaman to tank after this.
I honestly didn’t watch the video, but it’s wild this got so heated and wasn’t just people replying.

Not particularly, no. Anyone naysaying Shaman “Tanks” hasn’t really changed their position and this video doesn’t change it either. The Shaman was scraped off the floor a lot during this run and only avoided sudden 100-0 levels of death on harder bosses because RNG favored him. If you have to rely on RNG to “Tank” then you aren’t a Tank.
Put another way, the Shaman was as successful at “Tanking” as an undergeared, freshly dinged Feral Druid who could eat both Crits and Crushing Blows from those bosses, and that Shaman was in a load of Arena and raid loot.
You’d be surprised how hard some people push the idea that Shaman are not only completely viable as Tanks, but that the only reason they aren’t used more is because it takes some extraordinary level of skill to pull off and/or the community is just too small minded to accept it.
The Discord dedicated to it is rather rabid.
yeah those are just the same folks that spent years and years on private servers and all of Classic telling us that Ret was actually viable and secretly broken OP and we just were too dumb to discover it (and endless “bug” reports because “i did more dps on feenix blizz is wrong!”). Just a few really loud players that are easy to ignore.

What? If you have aggro for the majority of the fight that’s tanking lol. Doesn’t matter whether you are def/crush capped you’re still the tank
Lol, no. Dude was getting chunked to less than half health on every mob. That’s not a tank.
Anyone can hold aggro… and anyone can be lucky enough to never take back-to-back hits that flatten them. That doesn’t mean everyone is a Tank.
If you’re stepping up to a mob and that mob can 100-0 you regardless of what you debuff it with, buff yourself with, or what your Healers are doing, then you’re not stepping up as a Tank.
It is a DPS playing at Tank, nothing more, and even then DPS only applies because most Kara bosses and mobs have no real enrage timer.
So what about a Shaman that tanks Nightbane for the entire duration of the fight?
Got any other threads you wanna pull for this to not be considered tanking?
So Paladins aren’t tanks? Pretty sure without Righteous Fury and their shield they can get crushed and one shot.

The idea that someone is not a tank until they literally out-gear the content is about the dumbest thing I’ve read all day and that’s saying something given who’s saying it.
Most tank specs have a way to go down nearly instantaneously if they aren’t careful in content that their gear is “ready” for, especially in fresh progression when all your gear is from the previous tier (dungeon gear going in to Kara, Kara gear going in to t5, etc). That doesn’t mean they aren’t actual tanks.

Did they avoid death because they had sufficient EH to eat the damage and give Healers time enough to heal through it? If not, they lucked out no different than any other class and they did not Tank. (Video answers this for us: resoundingly no)
Roles are based on the goal they accomplish, and you can’t accomplish that goal unless you have an expectation of success provided everyone performs at the minimum standard for the encounter in question.
A person dealing 300 damage per second is a DPS for any boss in Sethekk Halls.
A person dealing 300 damage per second is not a DPS for Gruul.
This isn’t a hard concept. A person that can’t do the job can’t be considered having performed that role.
Reading is fundamental, nothing I said denies Paladins from being a Tank.
So a Paladins Holy Shield isn’t a buff?
You’re just bad at this.
