0/40/21 is pretty standard when not in the melee group for an external SA, but yeah sub cap FR resist for tanking both would have me sweating lol.

We tried to solo tank it for a few attempts, we had one of the Flames down to around 10% or something. I’m sure a better guild could do it, the damage was insane though:

Yeah I really didn’t think using uncapped FR gear while maintaining Shear avoidance was a thing but yeah, that’s rather impressive. The key is having things like Health-clicky trinkets (Battlemaster, SMI, etc) and Nightmare Seeds, maybe even a last moment Pain Suppression, to get you over the hump of double Tanking. Takes some fantastic gear though, need all the bonus Avoidance you can snag.

Trust-Me-Bro stopped being relevant on these boards 15 years ago.

So looking at your logs, the damage profile you take on that Paladin has you dipping quite low. You drop to 26% from multiple Blaze tics coupled with melee on one kill, and down to 21% on another, and you look to be around ~18k total health. Add in Demon Fire, or worse, having to stay put while a beam goes lazily by and you’re forced to eat Blaze, melee hits, and Flame Blast all at once, you’re in trouble.

Put a Shaman in that same situation, or even the situations you’re already in, and they’re taking bigger hits than you with a smaller health pool and without Ardent Defender to make tics greatly reduced once you get low. That’s a dead Shaman.

PS - I retract the claim of your non-experience, hope you keep getting more kills and better loot.

Not in the slightest. Shaman threat is abysmal even in gear focused upon it, let alone 90% FR or Resilience pieces.

This is largely incorrect. FR gear doesn’t change, and every Paladin log I’ve seen trying it relies upon items that don’t have T6 replacements and/or PvP gear. The only real jump up I can see is whether or not a Paladin can acquire S3 gear to fill those the pieces sufficiently to get as much Stamina as possible.

Warriors would struggle to hold both fires simultaneously while DPS pours hard into one, even if their set could handle Shear without much issue. There’s also the general threat concerns Warriors have wearing so much FR gear compared to a Paladin fighting a demon.

What does this even mean? When more tanks get better gear, we will see more instances of solo tanked Illidan. How delusional are you?

Most of the gear is already locked in or already BiS. You can’t improve upon Badge purchased FR gear, there’s nothing better. You can’t improve upon Tempest of Chaos, it is already BiS. You have to maintain Shear avoidance, which means items with less total avoidance can’t replace items with more total avoidance, which people already have from T5 in some cases.

Any top guild DOES NOT MEAN EVERY TANK.

Those guilds that do have BiS tanks either A) Had good luck or B) Did split raids.

For Illidan FR tanking? Yes. You don’t seem to grasp how many slots get locked in from the FR gear alone and how much that limits what else you can even wear to stay uncrittable based on your class.

For Illidan solo Tanking? Yes even more so. Not very many pieces of BT/Hyjal gear are strictly upgrades for the purpose of amplifying total avoidance to deal with Shear over T4/T5 era items. Threat items also don’t gain much difference in defensive stats either. A Paladin going from Gruul sword to Archi sword gains very little beefiness but a metric ton of threat.

Virtually every guild has been clearing BT since week two. Isn’t the conversation about that crazy Illidan solo tank strat anyways? What do non-top guilds have to do with it?

Most tanks are BiS or close to BiS. Our tanks have been in BiS for weeks.

Confirmed, you’re beyond delusional saying that most tanks are in full BiS.

Couple points you’re dearly missing.

  1. Just because you’ve been killing Illidan since week two doesn’t mean you have all the loot you want. Why haven’t my casters had a Zaharadoom or w/e drop yet? Why haven’t we seen a glaive or bulwark either?

  2. It’s not just the tank that needs good gear to do this, you also need geared healers.

  3. We JUST saw the solo tank Illidan kill. As in, IT WAS A WORLD FIRST. Give people some time.

We replaced 2 tanks, one right before phase, one right after.

Both are essentially bis, I think the pally is missing a trinket.

It’s not like Hunters and Melee fighting over upgrades LOL.
