You do realize how bad the playerbase is right? People ALREADY love getting hit by frontals now avoid frontals when a pet randomly wants to move or spin the boss. Imagine a taunt swap on a fight like Aggramar with a pet. The pet not doing exactly what you want in the 2 seconds you have is a literal instant wipe. Or even Argus would have been an issue since that frontal was 180 degrees and an instant kill.
If you think the average player can micromanage a pet when they canât even face a boss away from the raid with full control of their character you are just blind.
My ideas are
one hand and shield. Or 2hand and shield. Or 2 hand. (Maybe all stances?)
Elemental based tank. Mastery- has a chance to conjure the elements to aid in your defense (water- heal over time, earth reduced damage, fire - dots added to abilities and adds shield over time for defences, air (abilities can multistrike)
Rockskin- armor increase
Earth based filler
(Spellls Avalanche)- ice based attack shot with longer range slows target
Summon volcano- summons a volcanoe or volcano elemental that does aoe damage and threat for you
Rainfall- aoe heal upgrades to Thunderstorm- heals team and damages enemies crits have an addition effect
Sandblast - aoe that reduces chance to hit Upgrades to ash blast- with added fire to soak enemies in ash, reduces accuracy marks stealthed targets.
Tornado strike- melee weapon shoots out tornadoes that daze the target
Meteor storm- Earth wind and fire combin to launch a volley of meteors
Overal would love a shaman tank- been wanting one for years.
Love the further explanation on this. If instead of it being a totem you put down to re adjust the boss what if like the enhancment shaman spirit world, the tank spec shaman summoned a earth spirit wolf and could summon it at will with nothing but gcd and this is the exact same as you said with putting another totem down to re adjust.
Maybe try getting ideas from people who main tanks. No to pet tanking,but Enhance could do it.It wouldnât solve any problems of needing more tanks,people who want to tank are already doing it.
Or do it like dcuo earth tanks: incoming damage is split between the player and their pet golem, and the golemâs attacks generate threat for the player instead of itself (like redirect)
I would think a shaman earthward wouldnât have a pet, but take on the aspect of an earth elemental avatar. Per tanking only works for solo material but for dungeons/raids the tank needs to be able to control the boss and thatâs extremely difficult with a pet. But an shaman earth avatar âŚ
I like the idea and think that you could leave the other three specs alone and and a tanking spec. It would invigorate the class and add another choice for people to try out.
Issue is when you bring in something like a pet that has a pathing, or movement aspects, than you have the issue of facing for the boss. The reason i did it as a totem, or something stationary is that the pet/totem does move till you drop a new one. This could be used when you need to move the boss slowly, ie kiting it as you can drop it several times in quick secession.
The same reason I would go with the abilities of the pet/totem being linked to the abilities the shaman uses, is that it would lead to less of a micromanaging aspect to the spec. The less time you need to focus on your pet/totem the better, as a tank you need to be aware of the surrounding making micromanaging a pet/totem too much a no go.
The idea of the pet/totem having a portion of the damage dealt to the shaman stored on it like stagger might be interesting, while the stored damage might be dealt when the totem/pet is killed could be interesting based on how the totem/pet interacts with the shamanâs abilities. This could also work as a way of making the fact that shaman tanks would have lower defenses an mitigation potentially less an issue.
While i agree this is where blizzard would have to make the change for it to be a pet. Usually pets will automatically go behind what ever they are attacking. With this though i was thinking that they would have the pet spawn directly infront of the shaman and make the AI also face tank.
It is not fully just that, it is also how unreliable a AI is. When you have a pet like with hunters a pathing issue, or the AI screwing up, you might have a group pulled that you would not have otherwise pulled, but with a tank controlled by a AI the AI screwing up could cause alot more issues, and problems that a directed player controlled tank would most likely not have caused. Making the pet/totem stationary removes that issue of it moving wrong, or the AI screwing up on the pathing, or if the boss switches target or spins around to do a ability causing the pet/totem to move as well.
Yeah id have to agree there but its a nice idea atleast lol if they could make it work.
What if there was a healing pet that a healing funneled their heals through.
Iâd love to see some earth bending action going on such as encasing yourself in a layer of stone that grants armor or mitigation. You could also give this mechanic an attack where u punch your armor from the inside, shooting rocks at enemies causing high threat. Would be awesome
I would prefer if they created a new spec, Earthwarden or something. Wielding one handed and shield, would revolve around buffing himself and his allies I think.
I can understand it more as a aspect that some pet-users might like the option to have a pet class that is more healer focused. Also it is a style of healing that has not been done, though not sure how you could make it more defined an deep.
I mean I always though the idea of a warlock spec that was focused on the fact of the warlock instead of enslaving/pacting with demons, the warlock would look into getting a pact with Naaru or other light based beings, which could be more healer focused with different pets having varying benefits compared to each others.
This might sound weird, but I quite like the idea of a shaman or druid spec that was based around a group of shamans/druids from a land that has been defiled/corrupted/polluted for eons. I mean if that is how the world/nature had been for so long no one really remembers how it was originally, than they might think this is how nature should be. Now that would seem something like the dark shamans, could be dps or tanking spec really based on how it worked.
I want to see an earth based shaman tank spec. The proverbial ârockâ of a spec. Less movement = better damage mitigation. Just a thought as I know there are boss fights that require a lot of movement, but point of note, paladins tank better if they donât have to move a lot (consecration).
Ha ha, I wasnât expecting to come back to this post still being active.
The idea I came up with is kinda based around imbues, kind of acting like âstancesâ and allowing the shaman to approach a situation more how they want. For example:
[Earthfury Weapon][3s] {Nature}
While active, your attacks generate extra threat and have a chance to generate 2 Maelstrom.
[Heatfury Weapon][3s] {Fire}
While active, your attacks have a chance to Singe your enemy, slowing their movement speed by 10% and dealing ___ Fire damage over 10 seconds.
[Wavefury Weapon][3s] {Ice}
While active, your attacks have a chance to make your next cast of Healing Surge instant and cost no Maelstrom.
âŚTo give you an idea of the kind of play Iâm going for.
